About Me

I am a yoga and meditation teacher and a writer. I live in London with my husband and young son.

My first book, Hidden: Young, Single, Cancer, published by Blue Door Press is out now.

Yoga

I was working long hours as an architect at one of London’s top practices, when I discovered yoga. Before long, the Monday night yoga class I attended became a highlight of my busy week. It connected me to a part of myself that I hadn’t even been aware existed: the part that felt spacious, vibrant, easeful and at peace.

Six months after I started yoga, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was only thirty-one. Yoga was my anchor during treatment. With time off from work, I started taking classes several times a week. Yoga taught me the capacity to cultivate presence even at times of challenge. And it helped me plug into a part of myself that felt powerful, despite everything.

Over the next few years I became increasingly fascinated by yoga and meditation. Now working as a freelance architect from home, I spent much of my free time at yoga classes and workshops.

I qualified as a yoga teacher in 2008, having trained with Triyoga, and I’ve been teaching ever since. I’ve also completed an Anusara Teacher Training with Bridget Woods Kramer, and an Advanced Teacher Training with Sianna Sherman. I have been lucky to study with a number of other incredible teachers, including meditation with Sally Kempton, Embodied Flow with Tara Judelle, and restorative yoga with Anna Ashby.

My public classes take place at the beautiful London studio, Triyoga. These balance intelligent alignment & precision with fluid movement and playful & creative exploration. They will both strengthen and nourish you, as well invite you to hone a profound respect for the wondrous form that is your body.

My teaching is inspired by nature, poetry, my own life experiences and yoga philosophy. As an architect, I am passionate about creating space in our bodies, as well as in our busy minds. And since most of us move through life at speed these days, I place emphasis on moving slowly and mindfully and really feeling into each experience. Ultimately, our practice of yoga helps plug us into the deep wisdom that lives at the heart of each of us, and which supports us in making empowered choices and living a life that is authentic to us.

Writing

I began writing during cancer treatment. Cancer was a harsh place to land in, but also a strangely interesting one, so far removed from my previous day-to-day reality of site meetings, construction drawings, rushed trips to the gym, and Saturday night parties. My initial scribblings gradually evolved into a full-length memoir, Hidden: Young, Single, Cancer.

My story is told through the lens of a single person, who still hoped to find love, despite feeling like damaged goods. It’s also told through the eyes of an architect, and a lover of London, which becomes almost like an additional character in the narrative.

I hope this book can offer hope and inspiration to those who find themselves somewhere similar, as well as offer insight into what it’s like to go through such a life-changing experience; one that forced me to confront the darkness, but also brought in surprising bursts of light and opportunity

My writing has also been published in various UK publications, including Red, Psychologies and The Telegraph.
