Mt. Wolf haven’t even played their first official show in America yet (it’s coming up March 10 in Los Angeles, followed by some SXSW sets), but it’s not too early to get in on the London-based trio’s expressive sound.
With their new EP Hex coming soon, Billboard is premiering Mt. Wolf’s video for “Anacrusis” — a song that melds gentle, airy acoustic guitar with atmospheric electronics — today. Singer Sebastian Fox’s tenor has drawn comparisons to Justin Vernon, and by the time Mt. Wolf works up to the fervent climax of “Anacrusis,” you get the same sense of emotional breakthrough that a great Bon Iver song provides. The song brings to mind that feeling when you wake up (or stay up) ’til the crack of dawn and suddenly feel like you’ve got everything figured out.
“We wanted to film in a rural setting as an excuse to get out of the city,” Fox says of the video shoot. “We went down to my parents’ house in Dorset for an afternoon. Jeb, a friend of ours and a member of Phoria, filmed us using a technique called lens whacking which involves shooting the lens detached from the camera. As cliche’d as it sounds, we were told to get off the farmer’s land.”
