Verona Legacy #2

King of Souls

Rate this book
From bestselling author L A Cotton comes the highly anticipated conclusion to Nicco and Arianne’s duet

Arianne Capizola is living a lie.

Angry. Abandoned. Afraid.

She'd rather spend her days locked away on her father's estate than with the guy who stole her innocence: her fiancé.

Niccolò Marchetti is living a nightmare.

Broken. Banished. Betrayed.

He'd do anything to save the girl he loves, even if it means paying the ultimate price.

As the truth surrounding their legacies begins to unravel, everything they thought they knew shatters. But Nicco will do anything to protect the girl who taught him how to love, and she will risk it all to save the guy who stole her heart.

The clock is ticking as old and new enemies close in.

Only this time, their love might not be enough to save them.

*King of Souls in the second book in Nicco and Ari’s duet. Due to mature content that some readers may find distressing, this book is recommended for readers 18+

King of Souls is the second book in the Verona Legacy series and the conclusion to Nicco & Arianne's Duet. It can not be read as a standalone as it is a continuation of Prince of Hearts. This story like part one is influenced by Romeo and Juliet.

Content warning necessary for mentions of sexual assault, attempted sexual assault and violence

KoS picks up right were PoH left off and we are thrown back into this world. This part of the duet had more angst, suspense, drama, heartbreak, intruige and grittiness to it and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Nicco is angry and devasted with everything that has been going on around him. He is holding it together the best he can but he is also having a hard time dealing with not being able to fix things while also wanting to reassure Ari that things will get better.

Ari is lost, confused, hurt, frustrated and beyond angry. She is dealing with feelings of betrayal and broken trust towards the man she thought would always protect her, her father. She is trying to understand why things are happening with her situation and trying to have faith that things will get better and that her and Nicco will find a way to be together. She is so much stronger than she even knows and even though at every turn she becomes more broken and defeated she has the strength and ability to save herself and watching her grow and heal was my favourite part of the story.

Ari & Nicco's story is full of pain, anguish, hurt and full of ups and downs with outside forces trying to tear them apart with choices being made that they have no control over. Throughout it all their connection only gets stronger and stronger and they love so deeply and fiercely. This was such a great conclusion and I'm loving this new world Lianne has created. The story ends on a soft cliffhanger that is setting up the next book for the next couple and I'm already craving it.

⭐️ 4.5 "Rewrite History" Stars ⭐️
After the way Prince of Hearts ended, I was so impatient to get my hands on King of Souls. This conclusion to Ari and Nicco's duet in the Verona Legacy Series was excellent! The plot line had me invested all read long with unexpected turn of events. The romance between our doomed couple was so sweet and beautiful, but also heartbreaking at times. L.A. Cotton captivated me with this mafia world hiding lots of surprising secrets.

I already loved Nicco in the first novel, but this time around he was even more amazing. The way he loves Arianne and would do anything to protect her had me swooning hard. He’s so lost to her that at times it was excruciating to watch them struggle apart from each other. One of my favorite aspect of this novel was how Arianne become a fierce young woman, not so ignorant of the world she lives in anymore. She shows her backbone and stays strong. I was in awe of her courage and determination.

As it was the case with book one, the supporting characters brought their dose of funny moments too in all the seriousness and darkness of this story. The teasing between Nicco and his cousins had me smiling, but also Nora being such a supportive friend to Ari was amazing. Now that Ari and Nicco’s duet is over, I’m really excited for more of this world and these characters. There’s just something about Enzo and Nora's antagonizing that calls to me and I need their book asap!

What a perfect second half! This is a roller coaster and I loved the ride. King of souls is the second half of the Verona legacy duet. prince of hearts needs to be read first. This has a loose theme of Romeo and Juliet. It’s dark, lustful and will have you screaming for justice.

Arianne life is swirling out of control. Everyone wants Arianne to do what they want. Her father wants her to marry a man she doesn’t love. Her family want her to continue the legacy of her surname. The one thing that sets her on the path to be a star crossed lover. Nico is the enemy but the only one who shows her love.

Juggling the dark path of your family legacy has consequences. Nico has already started down the twisted downfall. He isn’t a good man, but when it comes to Arianne he wants to lighten her world.

Their families hate each other.
She’s promised to someone else.
Their bond cannot be stronger.

Can two star-crossed lovers find a way forward?

This is a duet but there is promise for more from other characters. King of souls is intended for an adult audience.

4 💞💞💞💞🌟🌟🌟🌟s❣️

The second part did not disappoint me!
Niccolo loved Arianne with everything he was.
Arianne blossomed to a strong and feisty girl becoming a real Capizola heir!
They reached their HEA through great twists and turns, betrayals, secrets unraveling, with loyalty, passion and so much love.

There were a few chapters that held my interest low (wordy and repetitive) but the whole story was engaging, intense and suspenseful.

“A love so powerful and consuming it should have burned us both into nothing but ash. But we’d defied the odds.
We’d survived to tell the tale.”

The end

I can’t wait for Enzo and Nora’s story... 😱

FIVE ROMEO AND JULIET STARS for Ari and Nicco ❤🖤❤🖤!!!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book completely fulfilled my expectations and I have to admit that it was even better than the first book.

I truly enjoyed reading it from the first to the last page.

Lianne has once again shown that she has an amazing mind and an endless imagination that is responsible for the large number of books Lianne has written so far.

This book caused a lot of emotions in me that were mixed all the time, so at one moment I was happy and laughed out loud, while at another my heart was broken because of everything that happened to the main characters.

If I could give a higher rating than five stars, I would definitely give it to this book, but also to the duet in general.

"King of Souls" is a modern Romeo and Juliet story that will steal your heart from page one.

In this book, Ari has shown that she is no longer a naive girl but a young woman who is ready to oppose her family, and especially her father, all for the sake of true love.

Nicco still stayed the same protective young man who was literally willing to die for Ari just to save her.

Ari and Nicco are modern Romeo and Juliet whose love is strong from the very beginning and no one and nothing can break it no matter how hard they try.

If you're looking for a college romance with forbidden love and mafia trope, then this is definitely a book for you!!!

Highly recommended!!!

P.S. Can't wait for "Villain of Secrets" 😍❤🔥!!! Nora and Enzo's story will be EPIC!!!

Nicco is still mine but also are Enzo and Matteo ❤❤❤!!!

Before Arianne, I had been numb; a reluctant prince wearing a crown too heavy. My only priority was the Family and fulfilling my duty. But meeting Arianne was like taking my first breath. She smiled and all the stars came out to take notice. And something inside me had come to life.

4.5 Bambolina stars!
Trigger warning:

I've been anticipating the conclusion to Ari and Nicco's story since the cliffhanger in PRINCE OF HEARTS, and I can honestly say that the ending was worth it! However going into this book, I expected it to be different from the first in that Nicco and Ari's relationship had already developed out of the "forbidden" stage and now they were having to deal with the consequences of their actions from book one. For me, the first half of this novel was not as easy to read as the pace is slower and we have to deal with Nicco and Ari's separation. I loved them together, so having to see more of Scott the Asshole was not something I enjoyed.
I could do this. I would do this. Because I was Arianne Capizola. I was my father's daughter. And tonight, I would bow for no one.

But the second half of this novel was absolutely spectacular. Arianne really began to flourish and her strength was showcased in her words and her steadfast demeanor, while Nicco began to accept his vulnerability and discover what it means to truly love someone more than yourself. Even though there wasn't much happening in the first half of the novel, it still forces Ari and Nicco to decide if this is what they truly want and what they're both willing to do to fight for each other. They both grew so much, and I was riveted by their transformations.
I didn't want to be Arianne's prince. I wanted to be her king. The king of her heart. The king of her soul.

Overall, I absolutely LOVED this rollercoaster of a novel. This duet is certainly not for the faint of heart as there is plenty of dark themes contained in its pages--violence, murder, rape, kidnap, and above all an unapologetic ruthlessness. I was so tense throughout the second half of the novel, waiting to see how the events would unfold and how the secrets would come out. And even though I was continually waiting for the other shoe to drop, Lianne caught me by surprise and damn near made me throw my phone against the wall in disbelief and rage. I should have known she wouldn't let me down though! I highly recommend this duet, and I cannot freaking wait for Enzo and Nora's book, especially after that ending!! I do love a good grovel and redemption story ♡

"You are my spark, amore mio. Your brightness outshines the darkness in my soul."

King of Souls is the second book in the Verona Legacy series by L.A. Cotton. It is the conclusion to Niccolo Marchetti and Arianne Capizola's story. It's a story full of turmoil, suspense, lies, secrets, angst, betrayal and a deep soul-stirring love. I loved each and every single second of it!

Ari is heartbroken after Nicco up and left her without a word, but she's not the only one suffering. Nicco knows that she's end game for him, and it took all that he had to leave her. But he did what he thought was the best for both of them at the time. Now she's being forced by her family to marry the man that stole her innocence, and Nicco won't sit idly by and watch. She belongs to him and only him.

Nicco and Arianne's story completely stole my heart from the very beginning. Their relationship was tried and tested, but they both proved just how strong they were. They fought for their love and didn't let anything stand in the way.

All in all, this was a fantastic mafia romance page-turner. A completely captivating story of feuding families, drama, vengeance and forbidden love. 5 stars for Ari, Nicco and King of Souls!

‘I should have walked away. The second I found out her true identity, I should have walked away and never looked back.’

After finishing book one in the Verona Legacy duet, we were left on tenterhooks, dying to find out what was going to happen to Nicco and Arianne. Excited for another delve into a mafia world we find so enticing. Starting off where we ended off we were right back in the thick of it and LA Cotton did a fabulous job of drawing us straight back into her mafia world and keeping a great momentum of angst and suspense.

“Sometimes we don’t realise how strong we truly are until we are faced with our greatest weakness.”

Arianne really comes into her own in King of Souls; from a timid inexperienced young woman kept away under lock and key. That is until she rises in the face of adversity, assuming the role of the family she was born in to. Her family had our backs up once more, and we can’t say we ever warmed to them or forgave their transgressions. Her and Nicco’s love was beautiful and her fierceness grew as we turned the pages.

‘The sins of our forefathers had led us to this point, and now, it seemed we were the ones paying the price.’

Nicco was less of a hard arsed mafia prince this time round. Love truly did soften him, which Enzo enjoyed rubbing in his face. On that note, Enzo has us super excited for his story, we do love when anti-heroes with no sign of redemption, turn! Nicco finds himself torn in two different directions. His heart dictates one path, his family another. However, where Ari’s father lacks compassion and family loyalty, Nicco’s father is the better man by far. The mafia way is to pay in blood, however how much and the blood of whom, is spilt in order for Nicco and Ari to find their happy ever after?

“That girl loves you, more than she probably should. You’re Niccolo Marchetti, Prince of fucking Hearts. You don’t cower and you certainly don’t shy away from making the hard decisions.”

Without question, the love story between Nicco and Ari was straight out a mafia version of a Romeo & Juliet type romance. Both suffering from the forced inability to be together. Family wars, criminal wrongdoings, violence and the sins of the fathers. It’s all there with love as the shining beacon. Whilst we thoroughly enjoyed this second book we felt that at times the storyline dragged with repetitiveness, only for the ending to feel rushed. That’s not to say we didn’t enjoy it, we really felt the romance and the mafia aspect. Trying to unravel a family feud and unmasking the evil was a drama-filled ride!

‘I didn’t want to be Arianne’s prince. I wanted to be her king. The king of her heart. The king of her soul.’

The conclusion to this angst-filled and dramatic duet will give you the ending you have been waiting for. This an edge of your seat, nail-biter till the end read.

This story picks up right where book one left off. Arianne is engaged to marry Scott, since her father sealed her fate. Their party to announce their intent to marry is being planned. Nicco is in Boston working every possible angle to get her away from that monster.

Oh the ANGST!! Scott will make you want to kill him! That man is disgusting and the author evoked my feelings of pure and utter hatred for him. Keeping Arianne safe from him is a full time job, because he is sneaky and devious when it comes to getting to her. He is determined to make her his permanently.

Nicco and Arianne struggle with the forced separation. All he as ever wanted is to keep her safe and love her forever. They just need to stay the course while Nicco's father tries to figure a way out for all of them.

The family ties are strong, but the treachery runs deep. Nicco's family is bound by honor and loyalty, but power is the ultimate temptation for betrayal.

This is an all-consuming, nail-biter of a read. Arianne was not safe as long as Scott was free to hunt her. Nicco was her white knight that would stop at nothing to keep her safe. His life for hers. These two were one soul split in half. Together they were everything. A connection that went beyond merely physical. It was steamy too, but so much more. I read this in one afternoon because I just needed to find out how it would end. This mafia romance will keep you on the edge of your seat. I look forward to more of the secondary characters in upcoming releases.

𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗹s picks up right where 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 ended. Now Arianne is forced to marry that monster and Nicco can't help her escape her fate. She is forced to face the storm on her own.
I really loved the woman she became, she knew that in order to survive this situation she needs to be strong and brave.

"𝑨𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒏𝒐 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒚 𝒏𝒂𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒈𝒊𝒓𝒍 𝑰’𝒅 𝒎𝒆𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒚, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒂 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆."

And Nicco, oh boy that man killed me. i freaking love him i mean he is PERFECT. Even when he couldn't be next to Arianne he did his best to show her that he loved her and that everything will be okay.

I loved how everything turned out for both of them. I laughed and cried while reading this book and that's how you know the shit is good.

I also loved all the characters in this book, Nora, Nicco's cousins and Luis too. I mean swoon, he is the best bodyguard ever. 2021 can't come soon enough, i can't wait to read about Enzo and Nora. If i loved Nicco and Arianne i know i'm gonna ADORE Enzo and Nora, he gives asshole vibes and who doesn't love an asshole??

Damn, what a ride! Omg! At some point of the story i thought I would have a hear attack. Nico is a human storm. Passionate, loyal, restless, hot. I loved his way to give a damn about danger and risk it all to steal a moment with his woman. They may be teens, but the quality of these characters is incredible.
The angst in this story escalate page after page, is consuming but also so captivating.
And the vilian in this story is absolutely convincing. He's there to make you hate him and want to kill him yourself.
And that's a great deal of the whole story and it's authenticity.
Of course you'll live the Mafia dynamics and all, but you'll also have the swooning moments.
Well, a detail I absolutely love? When Nico talk Italian. That's so hot!!!
Looking forward for the next story

Caratteristiche: mafia romance, new adult
Stile narrativo: scorrevole e coinvolgente

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

King of Souls is the second book in the Verona Legacy series, and I LOVED it! To be honest, I think I enjoyed this book much more than the first. There was action, drama, tough decisions and circumstances and an overwhelming amount of love. Both Nicco and Arianne struggle to deal with the futures they were born into but draw strength from each other amidst uncertain and frightening times.

Arianne’s strength was incredible. I admired her bravery, her confidence and her newfound determination to not allow anyone to control her. Her character development from the first book was fantastic. I was in awe of her compassion for those who wronged her and the hope she still possessed even after experiencing such a horrible trauma.

Nicco, my heart! I loved everything about Nicco and my love for him only grew during this book. The unwavering love, devotion and commitment he had for Arianne had my heart pitter pattering and some of the things he said to her had me swooning. With every decision he made, he always had Arianne in his thoughts.

Super, super excited to read Nora and Enzo’s story next. That sneak peek at the end was not enough and I cannot wait to get my hands on their book!! Really hoping Matteo and even Bailey get their own stories also. King of Souls is a mafia romance with a modern-day version of Romeo and Juliet with two lovers coming from enemy families but not allowing the past or others to stand in the way of their love. Highest of recommendations!

Priceless!!!! I have been dying for the conclusion to Arianne and Nicco's story and my god did it BLOW me away!! This book will give you all the feels and then some. I was obsessed with the first book but honestly this one had me addicted. Their story is so such more than just a book, it's love, respect and life. The lies and secrets kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what would happen. There is unexpected surprises that have you thinking "no way" that happened. I'm so enthralled with this book that I can't find the right words to say but all I can say is READ IT, you will love their story!!!

'King Of Souls' is the second book of the 'Verona Legacy's by the best selling author Laine Cotton. Told in dual perspectives, this book was the thrilling conclusion to Nicco and Ari's tale!!

From the tear-inducing cliffhanger ending of the first book , this book was on my most anticipated list! And what an amazing job this author has done with the ending!! Absolutely fabulous!

This book continues right from where the first one ended . Nicco has his reasons for leaving Ari and he is doing whatever he thinks is best for her. That does not mean that it hurts her any less. Now she is being forced to be with the man who destroyed her childhood and Nicco refuses to sit by and let that happen!

They both have a story that will make you cry and laugh at the same time. I am so sad to see these characters go , but am satisfied with this marvelous ending the author has given us! I love how both Nicco and Ari were strong enough to overcome any obstacles in their path and absolutely loved their love story!

This whole duet is recommended to all the dark Romance lovers! This book is q must read and should definitely be read by all!

The swoon continues in this modern day Romeo and Juliet by author L.A. Cotton.

King of Souls picks up where Prince of Hearts left off. Impulsively reacting to the attack on Arianne, Nicco has been force to leave her behind. But the time for them to figure out a way to end the feud between their families and find a way out of the chaos their enemies have created around them is running out. Both Nicco and Arianne will do anything and everything for each other, but will it be enough?

If you like angsty star-crossed lovers romance, sort of like say… Romeo and Juliet, you’ll LOVE this duet. Aside from being set in a contemporary backdrop and this being a romance as opposed to a tragedy, the Ari and Nicco Verona Legacy Duet is absolutely swoony and befitting of its New Adult genre.

Even though the plot twist were expected, I can’t count the amount of times I highlighted an incredible romantic exchange between Nicco and Ari. I especially loved Nicco’s devotion to her.

Important Notes: King of Souls is the second book of the Nico and Ari duet in the Verona Legacy series by L.A. Cotton. It is told from both points of view and ends with a HEA for the main couple and an introduction to the next couple in the series. Genres: New Adult| College Romance Tropes: College Mafia Romance. Maturity content: sex | violence | rape

While I chose to read a mafia romance and put aside my personal feelings about the trope, I do feel the need to comment that the effects on a society controlled by mafias are scary and sad and not even a little romantic. I have friends who were widowed in their early 20s because they fell for a mafia Jr. in high school.

Nicco and Arienne's story continues in King of Souls and the angst amps up. Their love is still forbidden and there are so many strong forces they need to fight.

Arienne is being forced into a horrible situation while Nicco and his family try to find a way out of it. This situation shows just how strong Arienne is, no matter how shattered, afraid and uncomfortable she is, she never gives her enemy the satisfaction of seeing it, not even with all the minefields he keeps blowing up at her. Nicco once again shows what he is willing to do and give up for the love of his life. This romantic swoon worthy guy is amazing. I freaking love him. Staying away from Arienne and their home town is hard for him but he gives his all to finding a way to bring down the enemy. I loved how the plot thickened and we learned about the past of the families.

However, I feel like they'll be more to unpack in the future revolving the secret that came out at the end of the book. Boy, I had not been expecting that. My heart broke for a certain someone, but then with the little glimpse we got of the next couple, that same someone broke my heart too. I can't wait to see how he'll get out of that mess.

Arienne and Nicco are an adorable couple, which I can't get enough of. I'm gonna miss them. Their journey was not easy but it was pretty amazing and so romantic and angsty. I legit love this world and I am already dying for more. The aesthetic of it all has me all heart eyes. King of Souls was way more suspenseful than I imagined and I loved it. The last maybe 20% of the book oh man, so good. So much happened. Very thrilling and unexpected things. It really got me super pumped for more of all these characters.

Once again, the side characters, in this case also side kicks, were freaking amazing. This group of friends, and I include Arienne's bodyguard here cuz swoon, already own my heart. I am so excited for all future books. Both Enzo and Matteo will get their own book and I could not be happier. The way Matteo talks about the girl he met to Nicco omg. I need those two stat. I feel like there's so much to Caitlin that we have no idea about. I need to know everything!! If you don't know, there is a novella called Angel of Tears, available in the Love in Lockdown anthology, where we get to see them meet. Hopefully we'll get more books eventually. I wouldn't mind getting a Tristan book where we get to see him truly redeem himself for the part he played in Arienne's 'downfall'.

5 stars does not do the love these two share justice! Nico and Ari’s world imploded in book 1 and now the war for their forever is about to start and no one, I mean no one is ready for what you will find within these pages!

The secrets and lies run deeper than anyone thought! From the beginning you are sucked right back into the world of Marchetti and Capizola! As Ari and Nico find a way to be reunited and figure out how to have forever they have to rely on each other, their love and the few people close to them they can trust! Their world isn’t black and white and it’s within the grey that the soul can get lost!

This story is like an emotional punch to the soul! It brings out every emotion and has you on edge ready to jump into the pages if you could! What I love about this world is that you’re not only getting a steamy romance but it has the added edge of darkness and adventure!

#promoteamperks

The ending is a doozy and this book ends Ari and Nico’s but it’s the beginning of something bigger and I ready for it! If you haven’t started this amazing series by Cotton then start now because it’s an adventure you want to be a part of!

description

King of Souls starts off right after Prince of Hearts ended.

Ari is heartbroken after Nicco up and left without saying goodbye after finding out she was to marry Scott. Ari with the help of her friend Nora and bodyguard Luis navigates through these times after the events from book one. While Nicco is trying to find more information about Scott and his family.

Throughout book 2 Nicco and Ari are challenged with alot of things that are trying to keep them apart. But their love is stronger then even they thought.

The Verona Legacy world has quickly become a favorite of mine. It is a modern telling of romeo and julia and I absolutely adore the use of modern times as mafia. I loved how Nicco‘s family always had his back and quickly accepted Ari into their folds when her family betrayed her.
Obviously it wouldn‘t be a mafia book without danger, murder and everything inbetween.

I really enjoyed this duet and cannot wait for Enzo and Nora‘s story next. The little tease at the end of King of Souls made me want to have it immediately!

Such an enchanting & gripping conclusion to Nicco & Arianne’s forbidden love story.
I'm just going to throw this little bit out there. I almost threw my phone at one point, Cotton went somewhere I never thought she would go and I about chunked it! I didn’t like it one bit and my heart is still not back to a regular pace yet.

Yes, I was angry! Yes, I cried! Yes, I yelled FIX IT!!! No, I’m still not okay!

I put this book down to eat meals only and even then my eyes were still somewhat glued to the pages of this book.

So many things to love about this book but the angst that bled from the pages most of this book is what kept me sucked into it. Watching Arianne grow into the person that she is meant to be was awe-inspiring. Nicco and his love for Arianne doesn't compare to anything he’s ever felt in life. Reading their story has been such a wild ride filled with despair, betrayal, secrets, death, pain but most importantly of all the love & happiness these two found within each other is what makes the everything worthwhile.

“He can have your firsts,”
I said quietly, “but your forever... that belongs to me.”

Arianne is engaged to the villain and Nicco continues to fight to save her from him and other enemies.
Their love is forbidden between warring mafia families and secrets abound.
They have so many obstacles to overcome however they need to be together no matter the consequences.
I loved not only the main characters but also the side characters and look forward to more of Enzo and Nora.
Angst, action, and suspense will have you turning the pages.
