RDI Seminar on Comprehensive Security and Societal Resilience

Join a RDI Seminar on Comprehensive Security and Societal Resilience on 25-26 April 2024 at the Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Espoo, Finland.

Finland’s presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States will host a two-day development seminar for new projects dealing with overall security, climate security and social resilience. The event is intended for organisations, operators, and company experts working in overall security.

The event will introduce successful and ongoing international projects. These will serve as a background for Futures Design workshops that will identify new projects and project networks. When registering, participants can propose their projects that they want to present at this event.

Comprehensive security workshop/track

Comprehensive Security is the cooperation model of Finnish preparedness, where vital societal functions are handled together by authorities, businesses, organisations and citizens.

The goal of the Comprehensive Security model is that the overall principles would last across governments. The practical implementation of the Strategy happens through sector-specific or cross-sectoral strategies, programmes, and other documents. Different stakeholder groups are engaged in the common work right from the beginning according to their roles.

The workshop will be led by the Ministry of the Interior, who is coordinating the national civil preparedness, civil defence and international affairs.

Climate security workshop/track

During Finland’s presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, resilience against climate change is strongly featured. The goal is to increase climate resilience through cooperation in the Baltic Sea region in examining risks and vulnerabilities related to climate change, managing transition risks, and preparing for extreme weather events.

This workshop will be led by Savonia University of Applied Sciences, who are experts on adaptation to climate change and climate security in both national and international networks.

Societal resilience workshop/track

In the Finnish context, well-managed, proactive, and adaptive preparedness is the cornerstones of societal resilience. Individuals and communities are empowered in to develop their preparedness abilities and skills. Research and development projects bring together different actors, putting humans at the center of the analysis of social resilience.

This workshop will be led by Laurea ResLab, a research group that focuses on researching and strengthening societal resilience.
