LTB 008/20 –  LABOUR LEADERSHIP AND DEPUTY LEADERSHIP ELECTION PROCESS

No. 008/20

7th January 2020

To:   All Branches

Dear Colleagues

LABOUR LEADERSHIP AND DEPUTY LEADERSHIP ELECTION PROCESS

Branches will be aware that the timetable for the Labour Leadership and Deputy Leadership elections was announced yesterday and this is as follows:

  • 7-13 Jan – nominations from MPs and MEPs
  • 15 Jan-14 Feb – CLPs (local parties) & unions can nominate candidates
  • 20 Jan – freeze date for new members joining the party to be entitled to vote
  • 21 Feb-2 April – voting period
  • 4 April – result

You will also see from the timetable above that affiliated unions have the right to nominate candidates by 14th February 2020. The purpose of this LTB is to advise branches that we will be undertaking a democratic internal CWU process that will involve branches in confirming the candidates we will be nominating.

The detail of how this process will operate is currently under discussion and further information will follow by early next week at the latest.  This will also include detailed information on the process for CWU individual members to vote in these elections as affiliated supporters.  Any enquiries on the above LTB should be addressed to the General Secretary’s office gsoffice@cwu.org.

Yours sincerely

Dave Ward
