Crisis Management Team for Business Archives

The team co-ordinates efforts to preserve business records in cases of liquidations, administrations, takeovers and other circumstances where records may be in danger. The idea is to share and maximise intelligence, given that many liquidations may receive only local or regional press coverage. Also, many businesses relate to more than one city or region and are of interest to more than one collecting repository, which demands a co-ordinated approach.

The group can agree an appropriate response and nominate a suitable person from among their number to carry the matter forward by advising the business in question, as well as liaising with relevant repositories. They will seek advice and assistance from other interested parties as they deem appropriate.

Initially formed in 2009, the team is committed to this role as envisaged in the national business archives strategies for England and Wales, and for Scotland.

Kiara King and Richard Wiltshire co-hosted the Archives and Records Association Section for Business Records Twitter special @archivehour on business archives and crisis on 29 March 2018.
