Selective Utrecht Medical Master (SUMMA) presents

In 2021, only 47% of the Dutch population met the exercise guidelines. Furthermore, the average Dutch person sat 9.6 hours a day. These are alarming numbers, especially as the harmful effects of a sedentary lifestyle and inactivity on our health become increasingly apparent through research. Therefore, the theme of this year’s SUMMA symposium is: “Medicine in motion: an active approach in health care”.  

 

We think it is important that healthcare professionals, current and prospective alike, are made aware of the important role of exercise in healthcare. That is why, we want to highlight the influence of physical activity on the prevention and treatment of diseases, rehabilitation, and also on encouraging patients to exercise inside and outside the hospital.
