This page has been designed to help our New Members understand and complete our Registration Form in full.  This page will answer common queries and will take you through each field of the Registration form field by field.

Common Queries:

Why Join the UK-SBA?

Becoming a member of the UK-SBA brings a range of benefits:

  • Members are able to post their details (qualifications, experience, special fields etc.) on the UK-SBA Register and, if they choose to be, are searchable for work on the Register (students are an exception).
  • All members receive reduced fees on UK-SBA, EABG (Experimental Analysis of Behaviour Group) and EABA (European Association for Behaviour Analysis) conference and training events, access to the UK-SBA Job Board and access to “Members Only” areas of the website.
  • You are eligible to join one or more of the society’s special interest groups (SIGS). These groups coordinate activities around a particular area of interest, allowing members with specialised interests to network with one another, as well as arranging specific activities to support the professional development of SIG members. You could also apply to start a new special interest group. The current special interest groups can be found on our SIGs page.
  • Other professionals and potential clients can be reassured that you have signed up to the UK-SBA Code of Ethical and Professional Conduct, have demonstrated that you have appropriate insurances for the work you do (either through an employer, or as an independent practitioner), and have provided to the UK-SBA evidence of an up-to-date DBS check, as well as your verified qualification and experience.
  • You will be supporting the UK-SBA in working towards accreditation and recognition for Behaviour Analysts within the UK.

Am I eligible for UK-SBA membership?

If you work in the field of Behaviour Analysis, hold qualifications in Behaviour Analysis or are a Student of Behaviour Analysis, then you may well be eligible for UK-SBA membership.

If you are unsure please contact us at [email protected] for advice.

Are you a UK resident?

If you are a Behaviour Analyst who is resident in the UK, including the Crown Dependencies, you are eligible for UK-SBA membership.

Unfortunately, those resident outside of the UK cannot join the UK-SBA as all members have to sign up to the UK-SBA code of ethical and professional conduct and also to our complaints procedure, both of which are bound by UK law and specific to UK practices.

If you are a Behaviour Analysis student who is resident in the UK, you are eligible for UK-SBA membership.  Students can be studying an online course from a provider outside of the UK but the student must reside in the UK.

Is my professional experience and/or my qualifications applicable to membership?

A full description of the membership categories, requirements and registration fees is given under the registration pages by clicking on our "Join the UK-SBA" button.

You must be able to satisfy and evidence all criteria for your preferred member type.

If in doubt email us at [email protected] for advice.

Courses deemed suitable for all member types must be Behaviour Analytic in content and must be recognised as ABAI verified course sequences.

For student members a letter of support is required, and this must be the Student template letter provided by the UK-SBA.

Please visit our Membership FAQs page if you have any membership questions that have not been covered here.

Guidance Completing the Registration Form

Please ensure you have accessed the website using one of the newer internet providers such as Google Chrome or Firefox.  Older internet providers do not support our new features reliably and may mean you cannot attach your supporting documents easily.

Click on the “Join the UK-SBA” button featured on the top right hand corner of our website.  This will take you to the registration pages.

Then select the relevant tab on the Registration Page; either UKBA (cert), aUKBA(cert), Practising Registrant, Student Membership:

On each tab full information is given for each member type: Annual registration fee, Requirements, Evidence Required and Benefits.  Before you begin to complete the registration form, please ensure you have all of your supporting documents ready to upload in electronic format and if you are a student and require a letter of support you have had this completed already and have it ready in electronic format to attach to your account.

Before you begin to complete the form, please ensure you follow these points:
  • Read through the whole of the registration form before you start to complete it. It is very detailed and requires several pieces of supporting documents depending upon level of membership.
  • Have all of your supporting evidence in electronic format ready to upload when you have completed the form and are ready to click “submit”.
  • Do not include your CV.  A CV is NOT acceptable for any supporting evidence for any of our member types as all evidence must be verified.
  • Please do not email your evidence to us, only the account holder can attach supporting evidence to their account. Unfortunately, we cannot do this for you.
  • Have your credit or debit card ready to complete the payment at the end of the application process.
A quick general check list of supporting evidence for registration:

1) Evidence for Membership Eligibility
Evidence must be in electronic format as it must be uploaded to your account.
A clear image or screenshot of a document is acceptable.

Examples:
Certificate or id card for BACB certification or screenshot of your BACB Certification Summary held on the BACB Register
Certificate or transcript for qualification(s)
Letter of support template completed if you are joining as a Student member type: Membership Template Letter

2) Certificate or transcript for any additional qualifications cited on the registration form
Evidence must be in electronic format as it must be uploaded to your account.
A clear image or screenshot of a document is acceptable.

3) If currently working or seeking employment you must provide the following three items:
Enhanced or Basic disclosure issued within the last three years
Safeguarding Training certificate issued within the last three years
Insurance evidence of insurance liability current at the time of registering (you must update this evidence if it expires within your term of membership)

Evidence must be in electronic format as it must be uploaded to your account.
A clear image or screenshot of a document is acceptable.

4) Profile Photograph
This is not essential but an image does enhance a member’s profile.

Now you are ready to register click on the “Register” button.

Here you will be taken to a form with a repeat of the Requirements, Evidence Required and Benefits and the price of the annual membership at your chosen level.

As you scroll down the page you will reach the membership registration form.

The following guide takes you through each heading of the registration form and explains exactly what is required for each section:

Personal Contact Details:

Your address

This should be your home address and is mandatory.  This is required purely for registration purposes and will never be published on the register.  If you do not live in the UK please do not proceed and contact us at [email protected] for assistance.

Your telephone and email address

This information is for UK-SBA use only.  This is mandatory and is only for registration purposes.  Details inserted here will not be published on the register.  Please note this email address will be your contact email address so please ensure this is the email address you want us to contact you on.

The only details that you can make public on the register are a telephone number and/or an email address given in the “public” fields.  This is only an option if you complete the “public” fields and only if you have specified you are available for work and/or offering supervision.  Those members who have clicked no to both available for work and offering supervision cannot be contacted at all via the register.

Your Job Title

This should be selected from the dropdown menu.

Full definitions of each job title are given on our “Find a Behaviour Analyst” page if you need clarification of how we have defined each title.

If you have a number of roles in the work you do choose the one that you feel defines most of the work you do and the field you would like to be searchable under as searches can be refined by Job Title.

You can expand on your role in the free text box “Other Information” if you feel you fit more than one title.

Areas of Expertise and Number of Years Practising

This is to provide information showing clearly your areas of experience.  Please enter a number to reflect the number of years of experience you have in that area; for example, if you have six years of experience in mainstream education enter 6 in that box.  The areas listed are autism, mainstream education, learning disabilities (adult), organisational behaviour management, learning disabilities (children).  If you do not have any experience in that area, please enter 0.  If you have experience in areas that are not listed, you can add these in the “other” box as free text and please do also include the number of years of experience you have in any area you add.  If you cite any qualifications here, you must attach evidence of this when you come to submit your registration form so please have this ready in electronic format.  A CV is not permissible as evidence.

Qualification

This is a free text box where you can list any qualifications or training you would like listed on your searchable profile under the “Qualification” tab.  You have up to 250 characters for this box.  Anything you list here must be evidenced by attaching certificates/transcripts to your account – again a CV is not permissible and your evidence must be certified.

If you are BACB accredited (BCBA-D, BCBA, BCaBA), please enter your Certification Number here.  You must upload your certificate to your account as evidence of this accreditation.

If you hold CABAS certification please cite this here.  You must upload your certificate to your account as evidence of this accreditation.

Other Information

This is a free text box and the first 100 characters or so are featured on your profile cover page.  There is a maximum of 250 characters for this box and this makes up the information displayed under the “About Me” tab.

If you are joining as a Practising Registrant you MUST explain your Behaviour Analytic experience here.

Again, if you list any training/qualifications here they must be evidence by attaching official certificates/transcripts to your account – again a CV is not permissible and your evidence must be certified.

Photo

It is not essential to upload a photograph and is entirely down to the member’s preference whether to post a photograph or not, but profiles do look better with a photograph.  You can upload a photograph or change this as and when you prefer.  Unfortunately, only the account holder can do this – the UK-SBA cannot do this for you.

The next section of the Registration form is a series of yes or no questions and these can determine your eligibility for membership.

Offering Supervision

This is mandatory and you must answer yes or no.

If “yes” - you must consider if you are offering supervision under your employer or you are offering supervision independent from your employer.  You must be able to attach supporting evidence of your Disclosure, Insurance to work and Safeguarding Training to be searchable as offering supervision.

If you cannot attach all of these three pieces of supporting evidence, then you must answer “no”, you can change this status at the point you can upload all three pieces of evidence.  To change this at any time just email us at [email protected] and we would advise you what to do next.

If you are searchable for work and/or offering supervision, then your profile will have a “contact me” box where the public can email you direct to your registered email account.  This “contact me” box is confidential and does not display your registered email.  Emails go direct from the Register to you.  The person who has contacted you will only receive your contact details if you respond to them.

Answering Yes to this question means you will have a “contact me” box on your profile.

Answering No to this question AND No to "Available for Work" means you will not have a “contact me” box on your profile.

Available for Work

This is mandatory - you must answer yes or no.

If “yes” - you must consider if you are available to work under your employer or you are working independently of your employer.  You must be able to attach supporting evidence of your Disclosure, Insurance to work and your Safeguarding Training to be searchable as available for work.

Answering Yes to this question means you will have a “contact” me box on your profile.

Answering No to this question AND No to "Offering Supervision" means you will not have a “contact me” box on your profile.

I hold a current disclosure (i.e. DBS, Access NI, Disclosure Scotland) at the level appropriate to the population I work with. (Acquired within 3 years of my registration date with the UK-SBA)

This is a mandatory question - you must answer yes or no.

If you are working with or seeking employment to work with children and/or vulnerable adults then you MUST hold a current disclosure.

Your disclosure should ideally be an Enhanced DBS or Enhanced Access NI or Enhanced Disclosure Scotland.  We do understand that there are difficulties for independent, self-employed practitioners in obtaining an Enhanced disclosure if they cannot access an employer to apply for it on their behalf.  We are actively exploring alternative routes for our members with the authorities, as this is a clear anomaly in the system, but if you fall into this category in the meantime, please submit a basic disclosure.

Only those who cannot access an Enhanced disclosure as they do not have an employer, i.e. independent practitioners, should submit a Basic disclosure.

Your disclosure must have been issued within the last 3 years.  If you do not hold a copy of your certificate a screen shot of your online disclosure summary is acceptable but you must upload the original paper disclosure that is detailed on your on your electronic summary.

If your disclosure was issued more than three years ago, please request this again from your employer or if you are submitting a Basic disclosure please obtain a new one: it is good practice this is renewed at least every three years.

For those that do not work with children and/or vulnerable adults and therefore do not require a disclosure for their role, for example OBMs or some University Lecturers, please select the box that you do not work with children/vulnerable adults.

If you do not require a disclosure for your current role but you do want to be searchable for work or offering supervision you MUST provide at least a Basic Disclosure.

If you are non-practicing i.e. not working and not seeking work, e.g. you are now retired, then you should tick the option for non-practicing.  Non-practising members cannot be listed as available for work or offer supervision.

If you are unsure about this question, please contact us at [email protected] for assistance.

My Insurance is current

This is a mandatory question - you MUST answer yes or no.

Your insurance to work must be current at the point you register with us.  All members who are working or who are seeking employment MUST hold and evidence their current insurance.  Your evidence should be your insurance certificate.

Your Insurance evidence must be updated as soon as it expires if it expires during your term of membership.

If you are non-practicing i.e. not working and not seeking work, e.g. you are now retired, then you should tick the option for non-practising and this is the only circumstance where insurance evidence is not required.  Those non-practising are NOT permitted to appear on the register as available for work or offering supervision.

There are some considerations to make to ensure you attach the correct insurance evidence:

    • If you have ticked not available to work and not offering supervision you MUST still attach the insurance evidence for your role.
    • If you have ticked available to work and/or offering supervision you must consider if you are offering your services under your current employer or independent from your employer.
        • If you are offering your services under your employer, then you MUST attach your insurance to work from your employer.
        • If you are offering your services independently you MUST attach your insurance to work in your name.

If you do not have insurance for your role/intended role, please contact us at [email protected] for assistance.

I have completed Safeguarding Training at the level appropriate to the population I work with. (Acquired within 3 years of my registration date with the UK-SBA)

This is a mandatory question - you MUST answer yes or no.

Your Safeguarding training must have been completed within the last 3 years.

If you are working with or seeking employment to work with children/vulnerable adults you MUST attach evidence of your safeguarding training; this should be a certificate awarded by the body you completed training with.  A CV is not permissible - your evidence must be certified by the awarding body.  If your training was completed more than three years ago you will need to do this again - it is good practice this is renewed at last every three years.

If you do not work with children/vulnerable adults for your current role but you do want to be searchable for work or offering supervision you will need to provide evidence of your safeguarding training.

If you are non-practicing i.e. not working and not seeking work, e.g. you are now retired, then you should tick the option for non-practising.

If you are unsure about this question please contact us at [email protected] for assistance.

I agree to complete 6 CPDs during my 12 month membership

This is mandatory for UK-SBA membership.  All members MUST agree to this.

All UKBA(cert), aUKBA(cert) and Practising Registrants MUST agree to this to demonstrate they are committed to Continuing Professional Development.  When you come to renew your membership you must attach evidence that you have completed at least 6 units (hours) of Continuing Professional Development, (CPD).  The BACB Continuing Education Units, (CEUs), are acceptable too - one BACB CEU is equivalent to one CPD unit.   Only CPDs/CEUs from a certified Authorised Continuing Education (ACE) provider are acceptable here.  Training providers will note if their event provides ACE CPD units.

You will need to attach certificates/evidence to your account to demonstrate you have completed 16 CPDs during your term of membership when you come to renew. For a detailed list of applicable CPDs please visit our guide to Continuing Professional Development Guidance Routes.

Evidence of this is not required by student members as they are studying the subject.

If you do not wish to agree this commitment, you cannot be a UK-SBA member.

Please note: The CPD requirement for all new members will be changing in 2024.  There will be an increase to 16 CPDs for annual certification for the UKBA(cert) and aUKBA(cert) levels.  The increase in CPDs required is to align with the requirements to maintain the new certifications, UKBA(cert) and aUKBA(cert).  Evidence must be uploaded to a members account for approval.  For Practising Registrants maintaining their UK-SBA membership the CPD requirement will remain at 6 CPDs.

We will be notifying all members fully of the forthcoming changes.

For full guidance on accepted CPDs please see our accepted Continuing Professional Development Routes.

If you cannot demonstrate you have completed 6 units of CPDs at the point of renewal please contact us for advice at
[email protected] .

I understand I will only be contactable via the register if I have opted for and been approved as searchable for work and/or offering supervision.

If you are not searchable for work or offering supervision you will not have a “contact me” box on your profile.

If you are searchable for work and/or offering supervision, then your profile will have a “contact me” box where the public can email you direct to your registered email account.  This “contact me” box is confidential and does not display your registered email.  Emails go direct from the Register to you.  The person who has contacted you will only receive the contact details you choose to respond to them from.

I hereby declare that the information I have provided for membership of the UK-SBA is true and correct.  I understand that any deliberate dishonesty may result in refusal of this application or termination of membership.

This statement must be confirmed for your registration form to be submitted.  All members MUST confirm this for membership.

Upload relevant supporting documents for your application.

Before you click on this button you will need to have all of your supporting evidence ready in electronic format on your machine.

          • Certificate or transcript for qualification(s)
          • For Student membership - letter of support template completed: Student Membership Template Letter

          • Insurance evidence of insurance liability current at the time of registering (mandatory for all those working or seeking employment)

Evidence must be in electronic format as it must be uploaded to your account.
A clear image, digital photograph or screenshot of a document is acceptable.

4) Profile Photograph
This is not essential but an image does enhance a member’s profile.

Username and Password

You will need to enter a preferred Username and Password.  You can log in to your account using either your chosen Username or your registered email address.  Please do not share your Password with anybody - this is private and confidential to the account holder.  The UK-SBA cannot retrieve your Password for you.  If you ever forget your Password, you can reset this from the login page.  Your reset instructions will always go to the email address you have registered with.

If you have any current unspent sanctions or have been struck off any other register(s)/relevant bodies then you have a duty to disclose this to the UK-SBA at the time of applying for or renewing membership.  If you have any one of these you must tick the relevant statement below.  If you respond in the affirmative, your application for membership or renewal will still be considered and you will be invited by the UK-SBA to provide further information.

This is mandatory for UK-SBA membership.  All members MUST select the statement that is true for them.

If you have any queries about this question please contact us at [email protected].

Once you have completed all fields and attached all of your supporting evidence you should click the red “sign up” button.  You will then be taken to the payment page to pay your registration fee.  Here you would pay via the STRIPE facility using a credit or debit card.  STRIPE is a secure payment facility.  Please read our Payment Cancellation Refund Policy Statement for Membership and Events.

What Happens Next…

Once you have paid your account will be set up as pending and the UK-SBA will then check your account for approval to the searchable register.  Your profile will only be searchable on the UK-SBA Register once your account has been fully approved i.e. we have verified that your account has been completed in full and all necessary supporting evidence has been attached. If there are any queries you will be contacted via the email address you have chosen to register with.  If you have registered for a member type that is incorrect for your qualification(s)/experience, we would contact you via your registered email at this point.  If you have paid the wrong registration fee and are due a refund, we would contact you on your registered email to inform you and then reimburse you to the card you have used to make your payment.  If you need to increase your payment, we would contact you on your registered email to inform you and then we would invoice you electronically for the difference depending on the correct level of membership.  The invoice would be emailed to your registered contact email address.  As soon as your account is fully approved your profile will be searchable on the UK-SBA Register.

What happens if I need to change my member type mid-term of my current membership?

This is very easy to do.  In the first instance you would need to contact us at [email protected] to inform us of your request.  We would then determine what changes you need to make to your profile if any and also what supporting evidence is required.  We would determine what amount of money we either owe to you or you need to pay to change member type.  The amount is determined by working out the amount per month and then determining how many months of membership are left to the end of the current term.

If we owe you - we will arrange a refund to your preferred bank account.

If you owe the UK-SBA - we will issue you with an electronic invoice for the required amount.  This will be emailed to your registered email address.

Once any necessary financial transaction has been completed and all necessary supporting evidence received, we would change your member type and your account would be approved.
