MEPs visit Washington, D.C. to discuss transatlantic justice and home affairs co-operation
A delegation of seven MEPs will travel to Washington, D.C. for a four-day visit to discuss cooperation in data protection, asylum, migration, security and the fight against terrorism.
From 23 to 26 May, a delegation of the Civil Liberties Committee, headed by committee Chair Juan Fernando LÓPEZ AGUILAR (S&D, ES), will be in the U.S. capital to discuss EU-U.S. cooperation in the protection of personal data, online content moderation, cybersecurity, migration and visa policies, and artificial intelligence (AI), among other topics.
MEPs will meet with officials from the US Departments of State, Commerce, Justice, and Homeland Security to discuss possibilities for a new transatlantic data privacy framework, asylum and migration co-operation, visa policies and electronic evidence. They will also discuss privacy enforcement and artificial intelligence with Lina Khan, Chair of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and online content moderation and domestic terrorism with Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) officials. Finally, the programme concludes with discussions on civil liberties, privacy legislation and technology with NGOs and experts.
