Robyn received a book from her big sister and immediately fell in love with Cinderella. Sprinklings of magic, deepest wishes come true - she was hooked! Picture books with glass slippers later gave way to romance novels. When she was older, she wanted to write one.

However, in junior high, Robyn hit a stumbling block - a disheartening grade of one out of ten for a book review. Confused and hurt, she asked her hundred-and-thirty-year-old English teacher why the low mark? The wizened schoolmarm sniffed, "You obviously had a senior do it for you." Thankfully Robyn's business teacher was a honey.

Following a fifteen-year career behind the scenes in television, Robyn knew the time was right to pursue her dream of becoming a published author. Late in 2004, she received a phone call from a London editor. She'd submitted a manuscript to the Sweet line, which were featuring lighter, sexier stories to be released under the Tango banner. The editor was very interested in her story, but for a brand new line.

Robyn didn't stop smiling for a week, but sometime later learned her revised manuscript hadn't hit the mark. Then she received another call and another request for revisions to a second manuscript! That didn't sell either. On a third manuscript she received a very long, very detail email, asking for, what would turn out to be, a complete rewrite. Having torn out most of her hair, but with 13 contest finals in 2006 (including winning the Golden Pen and Where the Magic Begins), she finished the rewrite then contacted a New York agent. That wonderful agent took her on, and Robyn sold in a matter of weeks, first to Silhouette Desire, then Modern Heat (Sexy Sensation/Presents) with a two book deal! She is currently writing manuscript number fourteen.

Robyn lives with her own modern-day hero on Australia's Sunshine Coast with their three little princesses, as well as two poodles and a cat called Tinkie. She has majors in English literature and psychology, and loves new shoes, worn jeans, visits to the theatre and lunches at picturesque Moffat Beach with her writer friends.

One Night with His Rival was a steamy romance between two people on opposite sides of a decades long feud.

Ajax Rawson has no trouble finding a woman to spend his nights with but the one woman he wants is the one woman he can't have, Veda Darnel the daughter of of the Rawson family's biggest competitor. With the attraction between them growing deeper by the day, the pair throw caution to the wind and fall headlong into a passionate affair. But years of bad blood between the families threatens their newfound relationship before it has a chance to begin.

Ajax and Veda's relationship begins as a purely physical one with things quickly developing from there. The book actually opens with the couple the morning after they hooked up and it doesn't take long for it to happen again. Their relationship is definitely on the steamy side and I thought those scenes were very well done. I liked how their relationship progressed and that was one of the strongest aspects of the book in my opinion. The drama between their families is what got to be a bit much and I felt it wasn't really resolved in the end and was simply swept aside instead. I also didn't love the reasoning behind the feud as it centered on a woman making a choice about her life and a man resenting her for it which isn't a trope I like very much.

Overall One Night with His Rival was a fun, quick read and I would recommend it if you're in the mood for a steamy contemporary.

Oh why, oh why, oh why did I bother?

I skimmed more than I actually read. It was uninspiring and lacked that something something to immerse me in this family rivalry type of romance. It was all too instant and too dull and boring for my liking. I'll probably forget I even read this by the end of the day.

Grady is a man with a past who faced more responsibility earlier he should have had to. he connects love to loss and pain. So he keeps his relationships casual and emotion free which was working fine until Veda.

Veda is the daughter of his family’s adversary and she has some trauma of her own which is affecting her present. There is no denying the chemistry between her and Grady but with so many obstacles standing between them will they be able to overcome them or is one night all they can ever have?

This is a sweet and sexy story about two people who help each other heal from the damage of their pasts.

An addictive sizzler with a feisty and intelligent heroine and a drop dead gorgeous cowboy who will make readers swoon, Robyn Grady’s One Night with His Rival is a sensuous, poignant and emotional page-turner I devoured in a single decadent sitting.

The Rawson and Darnel families have been bitter rivals for years. Veda Darnel had grown up listening to her father’s frequent diatribes about the family that had ruined his life and although Veda and the Rawsons had moved in the same circles, she had spent most of her life keeping them at arm’s length – until one passionate night when she had found herself unable and unwilling to resist temptation and had succumbed to wealthy horse breeder Ajax Rawson’s expert seduction. Theirs was a night of incendiary passion which had rocked the foundations of both of their worlds, but Veda had made it perfectly clear that this was an experience that was not to be repeated. But the best laid plans do have a habit of being thrown awry by fate as Veda discovers when she is thrown into Ajax’s path again and finds herself tumbling into bed with him once more…

Good-looking, rich and successful, Ajax Rawson is a man who can have any woman he wants. Strong and confident, Ajax has never had any trouble attracting members of the opposite sex and his exploits are frequently splashed all over the tabloids. Ajax has never had any qualms about sharing his body and his bed, but his heart is strictly off limits. Ajax is not interested in commitment or in a long-term relationship and he certainly has never thought about marriage. When he spent a night of love with Veda, he thought that she would be another notch on his bedpost, but he soon realizes that one night with her is nowhere near enough…

Veda is fully aware of the fact that her father would certainly not approve of her speaking to a Rawson, let alone sleeping with one! But Ajax has managed to get under her skin in a way no other man has before. Their affair is dangerous and illicit, but their attraction to one another draws them together like moths to a flame. The two families are deadly competitors in business and when accusations of foul play begin to be bandied around, could their fledgling romance be over before it even got started?

Robyn Grady certainly knows how to write sexy, emotional and captivating contemporary romance and once I started reading One Night with His Rival, I knew that putting it down was simply not an option. Sprinkled with plenty of sass, humor and sizzle, One Night with His Rival is a brilliantly written tale of high stakes passion, big business, jaw-dropping scandal and uplifting romance.

A first-rate contemporary tale that will keep romance readers on the edge of their seats, One Night with His Rival is an outstanding page-turner that kept me absolutely riveted to the page.

I do not know what this author had done but I can not seem to keep away from her characters and words which normal I do not read too many of contemporary with rich etc. But I do like a good one that carries a challenge to see where it goes. In this we will watch a match between Ajax and Veda with chemistry and rumors heading the way. The threads of intrigue adds the spice I delight in a romance with the characters keeping my attention also. We get the whole ball of wax with this one so I guess that is one big reason I could not resist.

"For years, she had dreamed of Ajax Rawson telling her she was beautiful, making her blush. But that night he'd done so much more than that."

Veda Darnel, the one woman Ajax could not have. A long and bitter family feud between his father and Veda's ensured that the two of them had no business being together. But, when he kissed her, when he made love to her, the feud seemed irrelevant, stupid even.

Ajax Rawson was all kinds of wrong. He was renowned for his beautiful women, and it was well-known that the chase was his thing — even his sister agreed with that. And what would happen if her father found out? And yet, when Ajax looked at her, when he smiled just for her, Veda found it increasingly difficult to stop herself from wondering if the two of them had a future — a real happy-ever-after future.

However, before their relationship had even begun, a scandal hits the Rawson horse breeding and racing ranch which could have disastrous consequences for not only the Rawson family but the Darnel's as well.

From an illicit night of passion to a promise of forever, One Night with His Rival by Robyn Grady is what romance stories are all about.

With a narrative that is comfortingly familiar and enough obstacles for the dashing hero and determined, yet insecure, heroin to overcome, One Night with His Rival was everything I had hoped this book would be.

Grady has given us a ruggedly handsome cowboy in Ajax Rawson. He has a reputation of being a bit of a lady’s man and has been bestowed by the rather cringe-worthy name of Stud. And although he shies away from serious commitment, he does this out of fear, and not because he disrespects women. Ajax suffered deeply when his mother died when he was younger, but as his father crumbled beneath the weight of his grief, Ajax had stepped up, taken over and got his family through it. Ajax is a man of deep emotion, but he never wants to find himself in the same position as his father had been — if he should love, and for whatever reasons, he lost her, how would he survive it? But along came Veda, and all the promises he had made to himself seem somewhat irrelevant, for his heart is telling him, in no uncertain terms, that she is the one. I really adored Ajax, he is honourable and so incredibly compassionate, that it was no wonder that Veda almost swooned every time she saw him. He is also a character who is willing to not only listen to another's point of view, but also make judgements on his own life, because of that point of view. I thought he was a wonderful hero, that really drove this story forward.

Veda has many demons to slay through the course of this novel. Her childhood was not a happy one, and even now, she is still paralysed by panic attacks. Veda has been fighting her own demons all her life, and I thought the way Grady portrayed her anxiety, and how it affected not only the mind but the body was particularly well-drawn. Veda is also incredibly insecure, and spends the whole of this book thinking the worst of Ajax — she is convinced he will become bored with her and to avoid a hurt that may come later, she tries to guard her heart by convincing herself that what she feels for Ajax is just a physical reaction. I really felt for Veda, she is such a lovely, wonderful heroine, who at the end of the day, just wants to be loved. Her attempts to push Ajax away, was understandable, considering her past. But, with small steps, she comes to realise that love doesn't quite mean what she thought it was.

One Night With His Rival is a classic romance, with everything a reader would come to expect from such a book. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and I simply could not put it down. In fact, I read it in one sitting.

If you are looking from some wonderful escapism romance, then check out One Night with His Rival by Robyn Grady.

I Highly Recommend.

Mixed feelings here. While I read this book in one sitting and enjoyed many aspects of the story, I do have some negative comments to mention.

The book faces Ajax Rawson and Veda Darnel, whose families have an old dispute, related to items of the heart. Always love gets in the way of a good relationship between friends. I won’t say more. A night of passion brings our main characters together and even if Ajax is willing to try the “relationship route” with Veda, she is not in a hurry to believe him. His reputation may have something to do with it. This combined with an accusation that Ajax has to face and also the family dispute does not help the young couple much.

Ok, I liked the romance, even if it was too much for Ajax. I mean, he spends a night with Veda and then he is all over his head – not very believable, but I can go with it. Still, most of the conflicts in this book are because of lack of communication. The discussions they have, the mistrust Veda has are a result of misunderstandings and not speaking openly. She does not want to believe in the grudge her father has for Ajax’s family, but she does little to prove it.

Somehow, the plot also feels a little thin and I am not referring here to the reason behind the dispute between the families, but also to the incident at the race tracks and who was behind them. How the conflict is resolved in the end feels rushed a bit.

While I would not disregard this book completely, I did find a few issues with it. I liked it, just not that much. Definitely I would continue with the series, as there are characters with interesting personality and I cannot wait to discover their love life 😊 Oh, and I still have to read book 1!

One Night With His Rival. Is in the category enemies to lovers. For years the Rawson's and the Darnel's have been enemies. Ever since Hux got the woman Drake wanted. Ajax works for the family business. Breeding horses, he is a big hit with the ladies and can have any woman he wants. After a sizzling one night stand with Veda. He just can't forget her. Veda doesnt want to want Ajax but she just cant help herself. As tensions rise between the two familes and accusations rock the family business.
Can these two work through the issues keeping them apart and find their happily ever after?
Highly recommended for fans of romance with some steam.

4 1/2 STARS!

Undeniable passion! With the second book in her About That Night series, Robyn Grady brings us a story of forbidden romance in ONE NIGHT WITH HIS RIVAL. The characters were easy to like and the story line pulled me in quickly.

Ajax is a kindhearted businessman who isn't afraid to show his softer side to the woman he is quickly falling for.

Veda tries to fight their connection because everybody knows that their father's will never get along ... but temptation is too strong!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast paced romance between two rivals where the family builds a strong background in the story line.

It’s always a refreshing surprise to find an endearing love story. This storyline has the majestic background imagery, a budding friendship, family drama, sizzling relationship, sparkled with a little intrigue. It easily draws in the reader from the beginning. The storyline is well written, with a secondary storyline as well; which enhances the overall story appeal. As the story continues you can feel the growth and change of the relationship. I would definitely recommend this story, and would read more by the author.

This story is about Veda and Ajax. Their fathers are enemies. They have one night together but that's not the only one. Veda has a best friend named Lanie. Lanie and Ajax are brother and sister. They fall for each other. The characters and story lines were well written. I recommend reading this book.

This is Book 1 in the About That Night Series and my first read by this author, and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. The storyline, the characters, and the author's writing style are quite good. It is a steamy, emotional romance between children of rival families, Ajax and Veda. These characters are likeable, the connection strong, the chemistry combustible, and the unconventional plot makes for an intriguing read. It is a romantic adventure with drama, humor, and love, plus engaging secondary characters to keep the reader interested. Overall, it is a solid read with heart, heat and a happy ending.

The h plays hot and cold more than the H. The H and h's dads are rivals in the same horse racing business. H is a playboy nicknamed 'The Stud' and h is a life coach which is actually a misnomer as she is mostly about lifestyle blogger and gives advise, presentations and speeches rather than actually 'coaching' but that's not my pet peeve. From out of the left field there is allegations about doping, there is talk of h being responsible for her mom's death, relationship issues with dad and hints of trouble in paradise aka H's relationship with his dad. Even with all this the plot falls flat, there are hints of tensions but nothing that truly brings the couple together. The H towards the end due to his horse's injury chooses to leave racing and set up a safe haven for animals but even there the decisions are his and not something where the h and H come together and bond over.

There is nothing worse than rivalry to put a wedge between people especially when it's to do with stubborn old fathers, unfortunately for Veda and Ajax their fathers do hate each other. I really liked how at first we didn't really know why Veda and Ajax's fathers hated each other and then it all started to come out and you got a little torn over who to feel bad for but also frustrated about how stubborn old men can be as it put so much pressure on them. This is not only a story about falling in love, but also dealing with family grudges, lies, mistrust, losses and moving on which keeps you captivated until the end.

I enjoyed this new "About That Night" story! This is Ajax and Veda's story. It's an intriguing romance with family drama and good twists and turns. The story is nicely developed with a good and interesting plot. The chemistry and connection between the characters is amazing. One night of passion leads to so much but all that transpired in the past and what happens on their path can they find happiness or will it be destroyed?

A modern day version of the Hatfields and the McCoys
Robyn writes a steamy romance about Veda and Ajax and their family feud and Ajax’s career interfering with their having any chance of a future together. Ajax not only has to deal with his a catastrophe with his stables, he finds the time to go after Veda to give their relationship a chance. I read this book in one sitting hoping the feud will end but that was just one part of the problem. The 2nd problem of Ajax’s career seems insurmountable or is it? You have to read to find out, and will thoroughly enjoy the ending!
