Mark your calendars and your TBR lists with Abigail Owen's BAIT N' WITCH. Of course, you will want the first two books in the Legendary Consultants series, too!)

Who knew that one of the best places to hide out would be in plain sight? That wasn’t exactly Rowan’s plan, when she became the nanny for three little witches, who, together spell trouble with a capital T! The High Mage Council is on the hunt for Rowan, and if they find her, it could mean her life. Turns out her new boss is the council’s best enforcer and he always gets his witch.

Far more powerful than her records would indicate, Rowan is hard-pressed not to use her powers to make life easier when her new charges and their father test her resiliency! What no one expected was that a power greater than all of them combined was at work in the background. Love and all of its complications will make the truth of who and what she is even more painful. There are always choices and hopefully love will win out over a doubtful justice.

Shades of good witches, clever little witches and one hunter falling in love! Abigail Owen tells a fun tale about trust and the magic of love! I swear, there were times when sparkly dust should be coming down, then again, there were times darkness and fear rode roughshod. In the end, he had a job to do, but could he do it? Would his triplets let him? What about his heart?

Abigail Owen has some great characters working together to bring a little chaos, a little danger and a lotta love to her readers. Park your broom, brew some tea and settle in for some wonderful reading!

I received an ARC edition from Abigail Owen in exchange for my honest review.

My review :

Will she be able to save herself without endangering her heart ...

I knew nothing about this author and something in the blurb intrigued me.
I read a few paranormal authors, yet in a few weeks, I discovered three new ones and I loved the insight they give of this very wide world.
Vampires are in the paranormal beings I like the lest, so far I do not find their blood lust very enticing, plus their cruel behavior often leaves me unsettle.
Shifters, I very much prefer, is it because of their bond with their animal side, I just prefer when the mating urge does not devour all the romance part.
And so far, outside Harry Potter, I have only read one or two romances about witches and warlords, I was never very much attracted by this side of the paranormal universe, I do not know why, maybe my upbringing reading Marvel and DC comics, I do prefer forms of life with superpowers.

So It was with very neophyte eyes I began my reading, and I was instantly smitten. So much I read it quite fast. I did not felt lost despite it being the three books in a series and the whole background quite new to me.
The plot was interesting, the characters attractive, and the book in itself answers all the questions emerging from the first chapters.
The open epilogue is a sweet teaser for what might come later.

Rowan, despite she being on the run, looks like a resilient and determined woman, not once broken pat her many ordeals, in fact she comes out every time stronger.
She is not bitter about her fate and what she faced in the past, still able to love and enjoy life even if she knows time is running out.
Greyson is supposed to be the more powerful of the two, yet Rowan, lively nature and inner talent with kids breaches his defenses, she crumbles his walls and opens himself to feelings he buried long ago.
This fast paced and entertaining had me mesmerized at how they would deal with the villains and how they might redeem Rowan her past deeds.
4.5 stars

4.5 stars - Reviewed for Wit and Sin

Every story in the Brimstone Inc. series has been wholly addictive and Bait N' Witch is no exception. The third magical outing features Rowan, a witch of incredible power who has been taught not to trust her own kind. Rowan also possesses a strong vulnerability, one that a powerful werewolf used to force her to do something horrible. Now Rowan has to hide from the judgment of the Covens Syndicate. And what better place to hide than right under the nose of the hunter sent to bring her in?

Greyson Masters may be the Syndicate’s best hunter, but he’s also a widowed father of preteen triplets who have a power no one can quite figure out. The triplets need a new nanny and Brimstone, Inc. has sent over Rowan, a witch of supposedly little power. Rowan is the first person who has been able to bring peace to Greyson’s household, but there’s something about her that makes him restless. The pull between them is strong, but what will happen when Rowan’s secrets are revealed?

As individuals, Rowan and Greyson are wonderful characters. Rowan is a powerful witch who has survived more than most could deal with and she’s retained her strength and kindness through it all. I loved watching her bond with Greyson’s daughters from the first. Preteens can be scary enough but add in magic? Yikes. Rowan is more than up to the challenge, though. She slides easily into the Masters household and into the hearts of the family itself. Greyson is the best at his job but he’s slightly in over his head in his household. He’s a loving father who is doing his best and it’s easy to adore him. As a couple, he and Rowan click from the start. I loved watching how they seamlessly became a couple, almost without realizing it. But Rowan can’t hide who she is and how powerful her magic is for forever, not from Greyson and not from the werewolves that are hunting her.

Bait N' Witch is just plain fun to read. It has romance, magic, action, and even a small mystery featuring the triplets’ abilities. I was hooked from the beginning and didn’t want to put the book down. I love how author Abigail Owen weaves together all different magical and mythical beings to create a fascinating world. If you don’t mind spoilers for the first book in the series, The Demigod Complex, then you can read Rowan and Greyson’s story as a standalone. I enjoyed everything about Bait N' Witch and I cannot wait to see what happens next in the Brimstone Inc. series.

Loved this addition to the Brimstone Inc series! It may just be favorite of the series so far. Bait N' Witch pulled me out of a bad reading slump and I'm so grateful for it. I was up till 3am finishing this one, I read it all in one sitting. The characters were interesting and fun and the romance was perfectly paced with the length of the book. Though these are more novellas than full length Owen always manages to make them feel like they are full length in the best way. It's complete and enriches the whole world created each step of the way. I also love that we get peeks at the previous characters we've come to love.

Rowan was fabulous! I loved the nanny plot line and her relationship with the triplets. It was just as enjoyable to me as the blossoming romance between Rowan and Grey. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I received an arc of this book from Entangled: Amara via Netgalley and this is my honest review.

Rowan is hiding from everyone when her friend sends her to be a nanny for the man who is hunting for her.

Greyson has been hunting for a witch that helped a bad guy but he's had very little luck in finding her.

Rowan is hoping that her new job as a nanny for Greyson will help slow down his progress in finding her. At first that's really all she cares about but the more she gets to know him and his three girls, the more she wants more with him.

Greyson has had a hard time keeping nannies for his three girls who happen to be witches because they can be a handful. Rowan is really good with the girls though and he's glad about that since he has an important job that keeps him away from home for long periods of time. The girls seem to be unique too which is interesting.

When Rowan realizes that danger is headed her way she does what she can to protect Greyson and his girls but things don't always work out the way you hope they will. When danger ends up right at their door, Rowan can no longer hide and Greyson finds out that she's more than he thought she was. But with the help of her friends, she might be able to get out of this alive.

Greyson and Rowan are great together even thought he doesn't know everything about her and when he does find out who and what she really is, I had to read faster just to make sure that he wasn't going to throw away everything they could possibly have together. This book sure kept me on my toes for a while but the ending was great. This series has been great so far. I'm looking forward to the next book now.

Disclosure: I was given an ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved this one. The heroine is a witch in peril from the first book who moves into a home to work as a nanny to tween-aged triplet girls (?!?!!) with a sexy single dad--who is the witch hunter investigating her. The huge buildup to conflict was wonderfully executed.

Rowan is a strong heroine with a tragic backstory who has no problems with kicking ass, protecting the girls as well as saving the hero. She can do it all, but she has the vulnerability and sweet side that makes us root for her. Grey is hot witch daddy with his own sad past who is can truly appreciate our heroine's awesomeness.

A bewitching steamy read with a lot of heart.

Get ready for magical action, dangerous deeds, triple trouble and secrets galore in this intriguing paranormal romantic suspense!

Sometimes the best place to hide is in plain sight . . . that’s the reason why Rowan McAuliffe is going to be a nanny looking after the triplets who are the daughters of the Syndicate’s best hunter . . . . the man who is hunting for her! However, his three powerfully talented daughters are somewhat out of control – until Rowan arrives. But just what their special magical talent really is, no one seems to know and it will take a life threatening situation for its nature to be revealed.

The death of her parents, her unusual upbringing and then being forced to use her magic against her will all make her a wanted witch. He may be seeking her but he has no idea who she is or what she actually looks like other than general features so by portraying herself as a low level magically talented witch will help her stay under his radar – won’t it? Well, it probably would if their mutual attraction wasn’t so strong! Can they both resist acting on their attraction?

Rowan can communicate with animals and they bring a dire warning of a threat to her and the Masters family. Can Rowan get away without endangering the four she’s come to care about? Just what is the burning sensation she keeps feeling on her wrist? What does it mean?

This is an enthralling story, full of secrets being revealed, mysteries to be solved, new alliances to make and so much more.. I thoroughly enjoyed escaping into it and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who enjoys this genre.

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it and not wanting to put it down until I’d finished it. Now I really need to check up on the earlier books in this series!

Well I was not sure what I was getting with this book and since it was book #3 in a series I was not really expecting much but I was in for a pleasant surprise.

First thing is that there is little need to read the previous books unless you really want to since almost everything you need to know that affects this story is provided, there are some characters that show up that you can find out more about in the previous books but nothing that detracts from enjoying this story.

Seems that Rowen is a powerful witch but due to some magical weakness she was used by an ancient werewolf to do some bad things and she is on what amounts to the Mage Council’s “Most Wanted List” and guess who happens to be there very best Enforcer? The hero and romantic interest in this story Greyson Masters who she is sent to work for (hiding in plain sight scenario) as a nanny since he has no idea what the witch he is supposed to be hunting looks like and the story evolves from there, throw in 3 kids for her to love and you have the makings for a really good story.

Obviously, with her on the list of hunted criminals this is not going to be easy but it is fun and gets a bit stressful in places so sit back and enjoy.

4 Stars because of a couple of minor things (like not giving us a scene with an insulting shrew) but highly recommended for a good time.

Bait N' Witch is part of the Legendary Consultants series and while this can be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading the first two books before starting this one.

I love the paranormal aspect of this story. We have witches and witch hunters and a lot of chemistry between the protagonists. Rowan is on the run, being on the Coven Council's most wanted list. She isn't an evil witch she was just coerced into a bad situation by a scheming werewolf. And Greyson is the person appointed to hunt and bring her to justice. From here things start to get interesting. I loved the dynamic between Rowan and Greyson, the romance between them developed organically. They're both well rounded and relatable characters. The nanny plotline worked really well in this story, I loved Rowan's interaction with the triplets. The action is fairly paced, suspenseful but also fun and entertaining. I would have liked a little more insight on the werewolves who were also after Rowan, but nonetheless I enjoyed this book very much.

Oh, that was good! A supernatural take on nanny + single dad, combined with hidden identity and a bit of enemies to lovers (not true enemies bc Greyson isn't aware who Rowan is, but she's a witch he's been tasked to capture).

What I really enjoy about this series and the extended world overall is definitely the world building, mythology and supernatural setup. Here the portrayal of witches, however brief due to novella format, was really intriguing. I hope we get to learn more on how the syndicate works and different types of powers.

Romance was a slow burn of sorts, I mean as slow as the format allowed 😅 but I did love how Rowan and Grey built connection through their late night conversations, and the longing and tension that just poured off of them 🔥🔥

Owen is a wiz at the paranormal novel game. This Brimstone Inc. series brings new and different ideas to a story. Rowan McAuliffe is on the run from the Covens Syndicate. What better place to hide that in the household of the Covens most skilled hunter. Rowan arrives at Grey's house and shows him that she can out maneuver his teen triplet daughters. But not all is as it appears in the household and Rowan works to come up with answers while trying to cool her attraction to Grey. Quick fast paced read. "A copy of this book was provided by Entangles via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion." Don't miss the first in this series "Demigod Complex which is my favorite so far."

Rowen McAuliffe is a powerful witch,  but she must hide most of her power while she's in hiding.  No where is better to hide than right under the nose of the ones hunting her.  Looking after three preteen witches is not that easy.

Greyson Masters is an enforcer for the Mage High Council.  He takes his work very seriously.  It would help him find the witch he's after if he could find out what she looks like.

Just how long can our heroine hide before trouble catches up to her?

There is a lot of danger in the magical battles and a lot of fun and mischief from the youngsters.  Will our hero be able to save his family and Rowen??

Absolutely magical fun.

Rowen was briefly in book 2 of this series. In book three we get to see her as a fully fleshed out character.
Rowen is a funny ,down to earth multitalented witch hiding in plain site. She is not obnoxious as many powerful female characters are written. I liked Greyson and Rowen as a couple. Wish the book was a bit longer, but it had a good enough ending. Definitely preferred this book for the overall for the characters. Cannot wait for the next.

I will say first that this is the third book of the series and even if it is written so that you do not have to have read the first two books after reading this one you will definitely want to. It had a bit of everything in it some action, humor, intrigue, romance, and the right touches of steam throughout. Everything was mixed together nicely and left the pleasure of reading a good story. Grey, though sometimes slow to catch on, when he did he gave it his all. Rowan was pretty much the perfect heroine she pulled off being strong, being vulnerable, and having the right amount of ingenuity to pull off resolutions to problems that cropped up all at the same time. The romance between the two progressed at a nice pace, not too fast or too slow and was completely fulfilling to read. I adored this book, cannot wait for the next, and think it my favorite of the series so far.

Rowan is in a heap of trouble with her life on the line. Her only option to escape the hunter who is determined to bring her in is to hide in plain sight as a nanny to his triplet girls. Immediately, Rowan is drawn to the family and the more time she spends with them, the deeper she falls. But she has to remain on guard and thwart Greyson’s efforts whenever possible because if he discovers who she really is, her death warrant will have been signed. Except instead of keeping her distance from the powerful warlock, she continues to interact and before long she is wondering if he could be trusted. Just when she is on the verge of confessing all, another looming threat makes an appearance and endangers them all. Rowan has no choice but to protect the family she has come to love, even at the cost of exposing herself. If she loses her life and Greyson in the process, at least they will be safe from harm. But in the end, the decision is neither hers nor Grey’s to make. Not knowing where Greyson stands following their harrowing battle, she isn’t sure if she has an ally or an enemy in the eyes of the Syndicate’s lead hunter. Eyes that make her long for so much more than she has or has ever dreamed of. And Rowan has one more secret to show Grey – one that could make all the difference – if she ever gets the chance to speak to him. But she must know his true feelings before her final confession now that she understands the meaning behind the mysterious mark.

Greyson Masters is alone in this world. He’s a widowed father, struggling with his three magical teenage triplet daughters. Not to mention he holds a very high position within the Syndicate as the lead hunter. To make matters worse, his latest case has hit a dead end. He has little to go on but a vague description that could describe thousands of possible witches. An then his ridiculously gorgeous nanny shows up and all of a sudden begins to lift some of his burdens; making his house feel more like home. But the jaded warlock doesn’t easily trust and suddenly he even suspects Rowan of being the target he has been charged with acquiring. But that would be crazy. As his feelings toward Rowan grows, he also maintains some small amount of uncertainty as he witnesses small occurrences that don’t quite add up. Chastising himself for not being more trusting, he shrugs some of it off. But suddenly a dangerous battle reveals what his investigation could not – and the mystery surrounding Rowan becomes much less hazy. But there is still a lot to ferret out. While his foremost responsibility to the Syndicate is to get to the bottom of Rowan’s actions that led her here, his heart demands to know what was real between them and what was an act of survival. Because only the truth can provide them any chance for a future at this point. And Greyson is holding out hope that Rowan’s feelings are just as deep as his own.

I’d like to open this review by stating that I have not read the other books in this series. As the 3rd book, I did not have overmuch issue in feeling like I knew what was going on and what the roles of each character were. So reading this book as a stand-alone is a definite possibility, That said, there was very clearly a ton of shit that went down in the previous books as well as a nice set up for any further books in the series. I’m relatively certain that Ms. Owen left the door wide open for both Grey and Rowan to return for appropriate scenes as the series progresses. Maybe more so for Rowan, but with Grey’s position within the Syndicate, he also has the potential to show up in several circumstances. Given how much must have occurred with the pages of the first and second book, I do wish I had gone into this book with that knowledge. While the author writes in a way that fills the reader in on previous events, it was also what I feel was a footnote version. I would have like to know the several returning characters and their roles before meeting them for the first time in this book. I mean witches, warlocks, demigods, shifters, wraiths, demons, and whatever the heck Delilah actually is … it’s a bit overwhelming but simultaneously intriguing. So yes, if you end up reading this book without realizing it is 3rd in series, then you will be just fine. However, if you have the opportunity and prefer the full effect – or even just allowing events to unfold in order – then I highly recommend reading this series in order.

Dang! If ever I could see a book as a movie … this would be one for sure! I easily played out each scene as I read what was happening, the vivid accounts flashing before my eyes. It’s not that the story was inundated with a shocking amount of detail, but the writing itself allowed me to conjure every scene up as it occurred with very little effort on my part. And that’s a gift all readers appreciate. The easier immersing myself is, the deeper I get pulled into a book. True escape into a book as it were. I found Greyson intriguing. A man who is lost, consumed by his work, and blind to the joys in life since the passing of his wife. His days have become almost militant in schedule with little to no time for anything pleasurable. Once Rowan steps in, she knocks his axis off-kilter and opens his eyes to what he’s been missing. The laughter of his daughters, for one. I was almost shocked that he admitted he didn’t hold a deep, soul-shattering love for his deceased wife, yet his love for his girls is apparent. Rowan is just about as opposite as one could get from Greyson. She has an affection for life and while she is hiding many aspects of herself and the power she holds, she finds happiness in making this family smile. Part of that could come from the fact that she believes her days are numbered. Not many would be able to escape with a target on their back like the size of hers. And while she may be simply hiding in plain sight, she also knows she has to appear like she knows what she’s doing. But the more time she spends with the girls and Grey, the more comfortable she gets in her role. What began as a secretive game designed to keep her safe and thwart Greyson, quickly turns into much more than she could have ever anticipated. And with that comes my curiosity about Delilah. It is eluded to that she may have placed Rowan in that situation to reach the exact outcome that occurred. But who or what she is never gets discussed. Her only name as far as we know is Delilah. That’s literally it. So I feel that there is quite a lot more to her and that eventually all will be revealed. No idea how many books it might take for that to happen, but I believe it will eventually happen. And there is likely some kind of history – or will be – between her and a member of the Syndicate. As far as the other characters, I am intrigued – fae, demigod, and wolf shifters alike. I would say that it is likely I will at some point find the time to read this series from start to wherever the current finish is. I’d also like to see the triplets attain their full potential. We may know a bit about their gift, but no one truly understands what they are capable of at this point. Serious untapped potential there – and a trilogy. *wink*

Let’s talk about passion. The attraction level within this book was pretty high, but as far as the passion occurring and description of said passion, it was quite tame. Definitely not anything to make one blush or write home about. There is absolutely no doubt that Rowan and Grey desire one another. But the passion, once it occurred, fell a bit flat. For the bit of a slow-burn that it was and the desperation they supposedly felt, I expected a bit more than what was provided. When it was over, my first thought was … what just happened? It’s over? So, yeah. Bummer. And I almost would say that scene could have been cut without them having done anything, making it a clean romance. However, I also believe given a comment made by Delilah, that the act itself is what changed a predicted outcome just before that happens. So not only was it disappointing, but it was also the catalyst to their blossoming bond. Again, bummer. So my advice is not to read for the passion element. Having never read Ms. Owen before, I cannot say as to whether she tends to lean heavily toward the tame sexual content or not. But for this book, in particular, you will not find fulfillment between the sheets within these pages. So let’s leave this aspect at the door. As an entertaining paranormal romance, it’s still a damn good read. As a series, based on this book alone, it’s got a fantastic amount of potential. For this being my first experience with Ms. Owen, I truly enjoyed my time spent. I will likely be returning to Ms. Owen for future reads. I’ll just know to expect a tamer romantic element. And that isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all. Fans of paranormal are sure to find an exciting escape within these pages.

**** I was given a free copy of this to read and review for Wicked Reads****

I read the two previous books in Abigail Owen’s Legendary Consultants books and was easily charmed by her fantastic characters! Although, I didn’t quite love book #3 the way I did the two previous books, but it was nonetheless another enjoyable quick read by Owen. Unlike the previous two books, which seemed to flow best when read in order, Bait N’ Witch can easily be read as a standalone.

Bait N’ Witch, picks up shortly after the events that finished in book #2, The Worse For Were: In Love With Her Werewolf Husband of Convenience, and follows the story of a witch, Rowan McAuliffe, who after being used against her will to perform a hateful act has gone into hiding from the Mage High Council.
Greyson Masters, a witch hunter, is one of the council’s best enforcers. He also happens to be a single father attempting to raise three young witches who show an alarming amount of power and are in need of a nanny. Luckily, Legendary Consultants is sending a nanny his way and she just happens to be the witch he's supposed to be hunting.

I always think it's so interesting the way Owen seamlessly blends portions of Greek mythology alongside supernatural creatures. I look forward to seeing what she does next in the Legendary Consultants books and anything else in the future! 4 stars for Bait N Witch ****

Rowan McAuliffe is a very powerful witch who was raised by a demon after her parents died. She has many powers but her speciality is communicating with animals, she is an Aneval, unfortunately this also means werewolves can control her and that is where her problems started.
After being controlled by an evil werewolf Rowan must go into hiding before the council’s enforcer finds her and with the help of new friends its decided the best place to hide is in plain sight.
Greyson is the council’s best enforcer but he’s having problems finding the witch who is his latest case. The description of her is vague, nobody seems to want to help him and his three daughters need a new nanny to keep them from driving him mad. At least he can solve one problem, get a new nanny but he never thought she would make him come alive and distract him from his mission.
Unfortunately, the happy home can’t last as an evil werewolf is also looking for Rowan and they know where she is.
This was a fantastic book the plot moves at a great speed with well-developed characters and a humour that had me smiling to myself many times. I loved Rowan, her sense of humour and the relationships she has with the family. Grey is a great lead he is strong, loyal, and sometimes a little slow to catch on but I loved him anyway. The lesser characters are likeable and well developed also and I wait to see what will happen to Delilah.
A great book, fantastic characters and a plot that will make you laugh. I happily recommend this book because who doesn’t love a HEA.

Out of the 3 so far, this is by far the best in the series. This definitely made up for the disappointment of the 2nd book (which a majority of was just a repeat of the first). After reading this, I find my interest in the series renewed and really hope that it continues to improve.

I loved the characters in these, though I wish more time had been spent allowing us to know the triplet daughters and also more time getting to understand their situation. Also I thought the conflict between Rowan, Persephone and Grey was too short. Not sure if all the above will be dealt with in another part of the series, though, or if Persephone is being saved for future villainy.

There were also parts of the story I felt were sadly rushed through (especially part of the ending), but even with a few of these issues this story was still entertaining.

Bait N’ Witch
is the third book in the Brimstone Inc. series and tells the story of Rowan and Greyson. Although this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.

Bait N’ Witch is my favourite book in the series so far! I really liked the story and the concept. The characters were amazing as well and I just loved reading about Rowan and Greyson. Bait N’ Witch was such a quick read and I enjoyed every bit of it!

Rowan is such an amazing character, she’s so sassy and I loved it! Greyson on the other hand was a bit reversed in the beginning of the book, but the more I read, the more I started to like him too. I also really liked reading about the triplets, they’re just so cute and badass!

Bait N’ Witch was another amazing book by Abigail Owen and I didn’t expect anything else! I love the Brimstone Inc. world she has created and I love reading about all her characters. I cannot wait to read more books in the Brimstone Inc. series and maybe we’ll finally get a book about Delilah?!

4.5 Stars! Bait N’ Witch was everything I wanted it to be. Abigail Owen’s Legendary Consultants series has really snagged my interest, and I read all three books in three days.

Summary:
Rowan McAuliffe knows a thing or two about secrets. Almost her entire existence has been secret, but not secret enough. From an early age, Rowan has been forced to hide her true strengths when it comes to magic because of her fear of being used. When those fears are realized and she’s forced into a sinister act against her will, Rowan must take her hiding to a whole new level. The Mage High Council is searching for her, and Rowan’s unsure whether they want answers or to claim her life, but she refuses to give them the chance to tell her. Where better to hide than in plain sight so she can observe the case and derail it if necessary. Greyson Masters takes his job seriously, and he’s very good at it even while raising his triplet daughters alone. His triplet teenage daughters with a mysteriously powerful magic no one understands. His frustration is at an all-time high what with his current case at a standstill and trying to corral his unruly kids. Until he meets his new nanny. Taking the recommendation from Legendary Consultants, the fiery-haired woman gives both him and his girls, a run for their money. But the Masters family’s newest addition has secrets. What were to happen if Grey learned the woman who makes his heart pound and body stiffen, is the very woman he’s been searching for? Would he continue being the deadly rule-follower he’s always been or can their hearts come out of hiding to reveal the truth of their fate?

*************************
I have been anxious to read Bait N’ Witch since I finished book one in this series, and I wasn’t disappointed. Rowan was an enigma from the moment we met her. I was fascinated by the magic she wielded and how she was an unknown, given her natural talent. Her history was as exciting as I thought it might be, her learning magic from and unexpected source. And despite her fear of being found, she was also confident, strong, giving, and sassy. I loved her approach with the triplets and the fact she didn’t give in to Grey. The only thing I really missed out on is seeing her put Persephone in her place, both socially and magically. Grey was pretty straight-laced, and I worried he’d be rigidly controlling throughout the book. Luckily, he wasn’t as much of a rule-follower as you first think. He loved his girl wholeheartedly, was hardworking, strong, protective, and very talented with magic. Although I knew how much he loved his daughters, I had hoped we’d see him become more involved with their everyday life. Not that there was a disconnect, but that in some areas, he was a bit oblivious (i.e. the girl's magic lessons). Rowan and Grey were perfect together. They had a slow-burn kind of romance. While I appreciate passion growing gradually until it finally spills over, I do wish we could have gotten a teensy bit more with them as a couple. In the end, it was a quick read that kept my attention until the last word. As there have been interconnected storylines, we get glimpses of our MC’s from previous books as well as hints about future stories. I’m especially enthralled with Delilah. After this last book’s epilogue, I’m nearly panting at wanting her story. The triplets were a wonderful addition, only I wanted a bit more expansion on their situation. I really like Ms. Owen’s writing, as well as her storylines. And I loved the magic. I was sad to see the book end, but I did find that two short stories were written to be included in this series, so I’m off to try to get them. ♡

An enjoyable story.

This is the third book of a series, and I am sure there will be some spoilers for earlier books.

Anyone who read the first two books obviously was ahead of me on character development and background but this premise sounded interesting to me so I decided to grab a review copy of this one. Unless you want to ruin the surprise, you shouldn’t start here. I wasn’t lost because we do have a section of the story where Greyson magically experiences the memories of the characters from the prior two books, so if I were to try and jump back to the first book, I would already know what happens at the pinnacle of the conflict.

We might be getting into spoilers now.

Rowan is a witch with an ability to speak to animals, but it turns out one significant blow back of that ability is that shifters can turn the magic around and control Rowan. This is what happen in the prior book. Rowan is a witch who was raised by her adoptive mother who was a demon. Her mother made sure she learned magic but not your typical witch magic. She also raised Rowan to fear the Coven Syndicate, who governs witches. She believed that Rowan’s parents were killed by the Syndicate. While Rowan was born with the special ability to speak to animals, she can control other powerful magic as well. But after the happenings of the last book where Rowan was forced to do bad things until she escaped her captors, she is on the run from the Coven Syndicate and more particularly, Greyson Masters who is the hunter assigned to find her. Rowan believes that the Syndicate’s usual policy is to kill witches that are a danger to others and worry about consequences later. In fact, when Greyson found the warlock who was captive with Rowan, he immediately killed him. She feels if the Syndicate ever found out that shifters could control witches like herself, she would not be the only one hunted.

Rowan’s friend decides to hide Rowan in plain sight and sends her to Greyson under the guise of being a low magic nanny for his triplets. The kids are cute and since it is a short book, they quickly grow a bond with Rowan. Greyson, seeing how well they all get along, begins to grow his own bond with Rowan. Part of what helps them grow closer, is working together to raise the girls and help with their magic. After years of juggling life as a single father, having someone who understands and helps him care for his teenage girls, definitely bonds them.

I enjoyed this story. It was a quick read with some good humor and a cute romance. I wasn’t invested in the overall story line so I was much more interested in Greyson, Rowan and the girls, then in the final battle. I came in at the end of the story arc but, especially since Greyson saw the events which took place through the eyes of the other characters, I certainly wasn’t lost. Unfortunately, it didn’t draw me enough to these other characters to make me want to go back to read the prior books.

Received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I would like to thank Abigail Owen for providing an #arc of her next book in the Legendary Consultants series, #BaitNWitch via #NetGalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Bait n' Witch by Abigail Owen is the third book in her Legendary Consultants series, a series that follows the cases of Brimstone, Inc ... a supernatural help service is the best way to describe it. In Bait N' Witch, it centers around Rowan, a powerful witch, raised to distrust her peers, and is currently hiding from Mage High Council, after the events of the first book (The Demigod Complex), where she was abducted, and compelled to perform magic to attack others. In fear of her life, she asks Brimstone Inc. for help hiding. Enter Greyson, the Mage High Council's best enforcer (witch-hunter), and a very powerful mage himself, who is tasked to hunt down Rowan and bring her in for questioning. In an ironic twist, he also asks Brimstone Inc for help. Not in the hunt, but in finding a nanny for his twelve-year-old triplet daughters, who run nannies off frequently. The solution: Hide Rowan in plain sight, as the newly hired nanny to Greyson's daughters.

This isn't the first book I have reviewed of Abigail Owen's. (See here for my review on Shift Out of Luck). I wasn't the hugest fan of it, but it didn't push me away from requesting another book of her's. Abigail Owen's is a good writer, so I wanted to give her books another chance. I'm glad I did. The story was cute and fun, and original. It's a quick read (I had it done in less than a day), but it didn't need to be longer. It's quick and to the point, with just enough to push the story along, as well as make the attraction between our two narrators believable, as well as the bond Rowan builds with the girls.

The characters are well-written, with thorough backgrounds, and different personalities. Rowan might be in fear of her life, and her free-will, but she is strong, and protective of those she loves. She might be in hiding, and not a professional nanny, but she takes her charge seriously. Greyson is your typical alpha-male. Lost when it comes to raising teenage daughters by himself, especially daughters with unknown magical powers, and swamped with work, he brings a strict level of control into his home by having his daughters follow strict schedules. While stern, he is loving, and only wants the best for them. Rowan and Grey's first meeting is a delight, and the chemistry is great between them. I saw why they were attracted to one another, which was something that was missing in the first book I read from Abigail Owen.

If you enjoy the supernatural genre, and romance, you will enjoy Bait n' Witch by Abigail Owen. It's a fun, light, quick read, with likable characters, and some steamy moments that will make the romance reader happy. Bait n' Witch is out June 15th, 2020.
