About us
In May of 2017, the Irish Government issued a call for applications for new Apprenticeship programmes, with special request for industries with no clear entry point. The Freight, Logistics, Shipping and Distribution industries are all interlinked yet their vital operational work in background goes largely unnoticed. As a consequence, these industries were facing a Labour and Skills shortage as the economy grew. Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) worked with Representatives Bodies and a selection of Employers across these Industries to form the Logistics Associate Apprenticeship (LAA) Consortium. This Consortium is a volunteer group, working collaboratively to address the skills shortage within these industries. With first-hand knowledge of the needs of the industry and desired skillsets for Apprentices, the Consortium worked with DIT to produce a 2 year programme with workplace employment throughout. With a board exposure to all facets of the Freight, Logistics, Shipping and Distribution industries, the LAA provides a solid foundation for Apprentices to begin their careers and choose their own direction at the end of the Apprenticeship, with a Level 6 Award on the National Framework of Qualifications behind them. Always nice to attend an event at The RDS and always a pleasure to represent the LAA - Logistics Associate Apprenticeship. We had a strong interest in both the LAA - Logistics Associate Apprenticeship and Transport Operations & Commercial Driving Apprenticeship at the Transport Research Arena (TRA) Dublin 2024 Conference today. As well as a extensive array of exhibitors there was a wide range of very engaging lectures, technical sessions and poster presentations. From Monday 15 through Thursday 18 April, our apprenticeship team is in The RDS at the Transport Research Arena (TRA), the formost transport event in Europe as well as the largest European research and technology conference on transport and mobility held under the theme "Transport Transitions: Advancing Sustainable and Inclusive Mobility." This event brought together researchers, policymakers, and industry representatives from across Europe to discuss mobility trends and share best practices in policies and implementations across different regions of Europe. We are thrilled to be a part of this amazing event and get to showcase on an international scale the success and the achievements of Irish industry-driven apprenticeships, the LAA - Logistics Associate Apprenticeship, and the first and only Transport Operations & Commercial Driving Apprenticeship offered in Europe aimed at attracting young people into the HGV driving profession.
