IPC revises 2021 Anti-Doping Code

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has revised its Anti-Doping Code to reflect the latest version from the Word Anti-Doping Code that is now in full force.

The updated IPC Code, which is available on Paralympic.org, distinguishes the organisation’s roles as an event organiser and an international federation. 

As leader of the Paralympic Movement and organiser of the Paralympic Games, the IPC maintains the responsibility to implement the “IPC Games Rules” outlined in Part Two of the IPC Code.  

Part Three “IPC IF Rules” apply to the IPC’s capacity as the international federation of 10 Para sports. The organisation is responsible to ensure compliance across the World Para Sports – Para alpine skiing, Para athletics, Para biathlon, Para cross-country skiing, Para dance sport, Para ice hockey, Para powerlifting, shooting Para sport, Para snowboard and Para swimming. 

Both sets of rules include anti-doping rule violations, the incorporation of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List and results management, among others.

The World-Anti-Doping Code undergoes a major revision every six years and involves an extensive stakeholder consultation process, led by WADA.  The IPC Anti-Doping Code was first published in 2004 and amended in 2006, 2009, 2011, 2015 and 2020. WADA has approved this version as compliant with the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code.

Anti-Doping rules govern the conditions under which sport is played, and the IPC  established its  Anti-Doping Code to align with the general principles of the World Anti-Doping Code. For more information on anti-doping, visit Paralympic.org-anti-doping.
