Athletic Section

PASCAL schools offer an integrated athletic programme, supporting students to maximise their athletic and academic performance and potential. The Athletic Section accepts athletes who belong to teams, academies, or clubs, sports' associations and who, at the time of enrollment, have demonstrated their potential to become elite athletes.

Currently, the Section has been catering to athletes in the following sports: football, basketball, swimming, water polo, martial arts and tennis.

The academic programme is structured around daily training. Subjects not attended due to training are still assessed so that student-athletes can be graded for their progress report and for their Apolytirion. Students in Years 1, 2 & 3 are exempt from French which are not assessed.

A typical day in the Athletic Section

The Athletic Section timetable varies across our city campuses.

In Lefkosia, the school day starts with training, followed by breakfast, then lessons. In Years 1, 2 & 3, students attend training for the first two periods of each day. In Years 4, 5 & 6 training takes place three mornings per week due to the increased emphasis on studying for qualifications. In Larnaka, Years 1, 2 & 3 trains daily in the mornings and in Years 4, 5 & 6 trains twice a week.

In Lemesos, Years 1, 2 & 3 train one-to-two mornings per week. There is currently no athletic section in Years 4, 5 & 6.

Depending on the afternoon training programme of their teams, academies, or clubs, students may have lunch at school and go to All Day School or External Exam Support Lessons or study in the library, after which their training takes place.

Specialist coaching

Athletes receive specialised coaching, supervised by the relevant school technical adviser, who is continuously in contact with the athletes’ teams, academies, and clubs. Our coaches are fully qualified and approved by their sports association. We follow HR safe recruitment policy.

A licensed sports nutritionist monitors nutrition, and student-athletes are supported by a sports psychologist. Also, each individual systematically undergoes ergometric testing to evaluate their performance, progress, and goals.
