Equivalence

Acceptance of a Psychology Degree obtained outside Ireland is based on equivalence to a PSI Accredited Honours Psychology Degree.

To be considered “equivalent” a qualification should be based on a relatively broad range of psychology courses including the biological bases of behaviour, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, social psychology, personality and individual differences (including psychometrics) and research methodology.

Applicants must demonstrate research competence in practical work and in the completion of a supervised research project.

In deciding on equivalence, the MQCC follows the Psychological Society of Ireland Guidelines on the Accreditation of courses leading to the first qualification in Psychology, January 2019.

Applicants who received their Psychology Degree qualification from outside Ireland must complete the Graduate Membership Application Clarification Form (GMA Form) in addition to the online application.

Following a Memorandum of Cooperation between the PSI and the British Psychological Society (BPS), those eligible for Graduate Membership of the BPS after having gained an academic award accredited by the BPS are eligible for Graduate Membership of the PSI. Applicants do not need to submit a GMA form with their application online.
