  • Chartered Membership

     

    The PSI encourages all practising psychologists to join the PSI and become Chartered Members.

    Chartered Members can:

    • Use the abbreviation 'C.Psychol. PsSI'
    • Use the title 'Chartered psychologist'
    • Download a PSI Chartered Certificate each year upon renewal
    • Download and use the PSI Chartered Logo each year upon renewal
    • Access the PSI 'Learning Section' to record and track CPD
    • Advertise their services via the PSI website on the 'Find a Psychologist' page. 

    Criteria for Chartered Membership

    In order to qualify for Chartership, you must first be a Graduate Member of the Society.

    There are three routes towards gaining Chartered Membership:

    1. The Doctoral Professional Qualification Route

    2. The Doctoral Research Qualification Route

    3. The Masters Professional Qualification Route together with Supervised Work Experience in Psychology

    How to apply

    Ensure you are logged in as a member and click here . Select ‘Chartered Membership’ from the drop-down list and this will take you to the chartered application area, where you can download and submit the relevant documents.

    Fees

    Chartered Membership Application Fee is €220. This is made up of a €150 processing fee, plus the €70 chartered top up fee. Should the application not be approved, a refund of €70 is processed. 

    The annual Chartered Membership fee is €330

    We also offer a free, first year, membership option for those with refugee/ asylum seeker/ international protection status. For information on the reduced rate, please see below. 

    Processing times

    Processing times for Chartered applications vary depending on the application pathway

    • Processing times for Chartered applications of those with Non-Irish (RoI) qualifications in Clincal, Counselling and Educational Psychology who do not have Validation by the Department of Health is around 4-6 months. Please note that those with pending Validation applications should await the Validation result before making an application for Chartered Membership.
    • Route 1 Chartered applications for those with a PSI-accredited postgraduate professional qualification at Doctoral level take on average 10 working days
    • Average processing times for all other Chartered applications is between 10-16 weeks. 

    Processing can only begin once all required documents have been submitted.

  • Graduate Membership

    Criteria for Graduate Membership:

    • Completion of a PSI accredited honours undergraduate or conversion course with grade 2:2 honours or above. Please see here for required documents

    OR

    • Completion of an overseas qualification that is equivalent to an Irish accredited honours bachelors degree. For information regarding equivalence, and required documents please click here. 

    Following a Memorandum of Cooperation with the British Psychological Society (BPS), those who have completed a BPS accredited undergraduate or conversion degree and achieved a 2:2 honours or above are eligible for PSI Graduate Membership. Please submit a scanned or online copy of your transcripts from your BPS accredited course to the online application. Please note, you do not need to submit a GMA form. 

    Fees

    Graduate Membership is €260.00, including a non-refundable €100 processing fee. Should the application be unsuccessful, a refund of €160.00 will be processed. 

    We offer a reduced rate to those in certain circumstances. The reduced rate is €75 including a €35.00 processing fee. Should the application be unsuccessful a refund of €40.00 is processed. We also offer a free, first year, membership option for those with refugee/ asylum seeker/ international protection status. For information on the reduced rate, please see below. 

    Processing times

    • Applications of those with PSI or BPS-accredited undergraduate/ conversion qualifications are usually processed within 10 working days
    • The average processing time for applicants with overseas qualifications is between 10-16 weeks.

  • Student Membership

    The best way to start your career as a Psychologist is to join as an undergraduate. Membership is simple once you are on a PSI Accredited Undergraduate/Conversion course.

    We offer three payment options for Student Members. Please see below for details. 

     

    • 1 Year : You can select this option at any stage during your PSI/ BPS accredited undergraduate or conversion qualification. Your membership will be valid for the rest of the calendar year and will automatically renew the following January. €18 per calendar year. We also offer a free, first year, membership option for those with refugee/ asylum seeker/ international protection status. For information on the reduced rate, please see below. 
    • 3 year: You can select this option if you are in your first year of a 3 year PSI/BPS accredited undergraduate or conversion qualification. Pay in advance for membership that covers the entire of your undergraduate course and receive a discount. Discounted rate of €45
    • 4 year: You can select this option if you are in your first year of a 4 year PSI/ BPS accredited undergraduate qualification. Pay in advance for membership that covers the entire of your undergraduate course and receive a discount. Discounted rate of €60

  • Fellowship

     

    Existing Associate Fellows, and Chartered Members can apply for Fellowship of the Society if they can demonstrate that they have made a significant contribution to Psychology.  Please email  membership@psychologicalsociety.ie for the PSI Fellowship Application form. Please refer to the PSI Fellowship Guidelines for information. See Here for guidelines. 

    There is a once off application fee of €150.

  • Associate Fellowship

    Graduate Members can apply to become Associate Fellows of the PSI. As well as holding graduate membership of the Society, the applicant must also satisfy the Council that he/she is professionally competent and has at least four years relevant wholetime experience, or an equivalent period part-time, in work in the area of psychology.

    There is a once off application fee of €100.

     

  • Associate Membership

    Those who have an interest in psychology and wish to contribute to the Society but are not eligible for Student or Graduate Membership can join the PSI as an Associate Member.  Annual subscription fee: €55.00.  Your membership fee will cover the rest of the calendar year.

  • Reduced Rate

    Reduced Rate 

    The PSI offers a reduced annual subscription rate of €75 in certain circumstances. To avail of the reduced rate you must meet one of the following:

    • Enrolled in full-time OR part-time postgraduate education;
    • Current income threshold is €29,548  or below per annum;
    • Retired*;
    • Living overseas

    Free Membership

    In an endeavour to help and support refugees and asylum seekers we offer free first year membership to those who meet this criteria and are eligible for PSI membership 

    •  Refugee/ Asylum Seeker/ Temporary Protection Status

     

    For Applicants: To avail of the reduced rate/ free membership be sure to select your discount type AND submit your reduced rate evidence to the reduced rate section of the online membership applicationPlease note, if your evidence is not appropriate, your application may be declined.

    Depending on your circumstances, please provide the following relevant documentation:

    Postgraduate Student
    ​If you are in full-time or part-time postgraduate education, please provide a valid student card or a letter from your University showing you are enrolled on a postgraduate course.

    Low Income or Unemployed
    If your current income is €29,548 or below per year, we require your ‘Employment Detail Summary’ which you can access through Revenue  ‘My Account’.

    If you are self-employed, please provide a letter from your accountant stating your earnings or an acknowledgement from the Revenue Commissioners titled the ITSA Full Agreement Pack which can be accessed via your ROS inbox.

    If you are unemployed, please provide evidence that you are receiving Social Welfare

    Retired*
    Send us notification that you are retired.

    Living Overseas
    If you are living overseas we require an official document showing your name and address overseas, for example, a utility bill.

    Refugee/ Asylum Seeker/ Temporary Protection Status (FREE Membership)

    If you have Refugee Status, please provide a copy of your Refugee Status Declaration Letter.

    If you have Temporary Protection Status, please provide a copy of your letter confirming this.  

    If you have submitted an application for International Protection, please provide a copy of your Temporary Residence Certificate (TRC), or ‘Blue card’.

     

    *Retired - Please note, Chartered members who avail of the retired reduced rate will not receive Chartered Certificates and will not appear on Find a Psychologist.
