HAMPSTEAD — Hampstead United Methodist Church recently gave away 200 free boxes of produce to needy families in Pender County. The event was part of a U.S. Department of Agriculture program of “Farmers to Families.”

Pastor Skip Williams and about 15 church members worked hard, driving to Goldsboro, loading trucks and trailers, and carrying boxes to all who came to the church for the produce.

The food banks including 4C's, St. Joseph's in Burgaw and Livingstone Tabernacle, other churches, the police and fire departments, all helped to get the food to the needy.
